DeleteFelt like too many anagrams. 9 out of 30.
ReplyDeleteDid not notice the number of anagrams (9) till I saw the comments. Pretty good run from Arden.
ReplyDeleteOnly 7 comments today !
ReplyDeleteYes, only 7. I joined late and expected more. But CW was most enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI think 12A is extremely good. Straying without 'A' makes one (at least me!) think in terms of straying*-A. Quite misleading and I am sure Arden planned it that way. I always get put out by the use 'without' in this sense-as opposite of 'within'.
I never knew this meaning of 'retainer' and thinking in terms of a retainer fee.
Some how,I still continue to fail to appreciate the opposite meaning attached to "Without" But that in no way deters me from arriving at the correct solution, making myself resigned to some thinking that the clue may be designed on poetic lines, like placing the subject in the end.
