DeleteGraphic for 28 Across...:-)
ReplyDeleteThanks to the Hindu crossword, my husband was able to connect with the first boss in his career, one whom he always hero-worshipped. A couple of days back, while I was posting answers in Orkut,he happened to see Sridhar Shenoy Panchmal's pic and got in touch after almost 30 years!
ReplyDeleteSandhya, I guess Sridhar hails from Mangalore. Since I am trying to build up a group of THC solvers here, he could be of help. May I have his email ID? You can have his permission first or pass on my email ID to him. RLASRADO@GMAIL.COM - all in lower case.
DeleteRichard,
DeleteThere is an interview with Sridhar on Crossword Unclued
Richard, from his name I can deduce he belongs to the Panchmal family. They used to have a shop opposite flower market (remember you dropped me there to buy Vaali). The family used to live in a large compound New Field Street (the road starting roughly next to the Mahamaya Temple pond and going to New Chitra Talkies, parallel to the Car Street). I think there was a school (KaDpittal) near their residence. I do not know if they continue to live there.
DeleteWhen i was living in Goa in 1983-5 and used to drive down to Manglore, i used to park my car overnight in their compound
DeleteDeepak, thanks, I will go through it.
DeleteKishore, thank you too. For once, there is no encrypted language! Everything in detail.
For those of you who are wondering what Kishore meant by vaali @1-49 pm, it is a climber vegetable, Basella alba in Botany. They call it basaLe in Kannada, and Indian spinach in English.
IT'S HERE
Other languages: Bengali: Pui shak Oriya: ପୋଈ ସାଗ (Poi saaga), Telugu: బచ్చలి (Bachhali),Tamil: Kodip pasaLi (கொடிப்பசளி) and Marathi: MayaLu (मायाळू)
vashala cheera in Malayalam
DeleteOne more plus point (if needed) for THC!
ReplyDeleteReally good one to start the week.
ReplyDeleteNice one from Textrous. I also had AERO (without anno) for 18A, but no doubt Sandhya's anno is bang on.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kishore on a debut of sorts. But what on earth is a double malt? If a chap's asking that question, he should neither consume nor serve!
http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Single-Double-and-Blended-Malt-Whiskey-What-s-the-difference/1259775
Deletebut I have also read that it goes well with peacock egg
Bhala, thans, but the debut was last Monday
Deleteoops sorry, that's right! Was looking out for your tagline today and short term memory seems to be, well, really short.
DeleteFor the purist, anything other than a single malt is simply 'blended'! Peacock egg eh? Are you having me on?
Exactly, since both look like myths ;-)
Delete@ Kishore It is always interesting and entertaining to read your comments!
ReplyDeleteThanks, LV. Empty vessels ....
ReplyDeleteGreetings all,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Raghuveer and I live near Washington DC. On a recent trip home, I picked up THC and discovered this wonderful blog. Please know that your efforts (and the lively discussions that follow) are very much appreciated.
A few suggestions that would enhance the blog.
1. Hide the answers by default (using Javascript or some such) so that we can take a crack at in-line solving.
2. Rate each puzzle on a difficulty scale of 1-10. It will really help newbies in deciding how much time they want to give the puzzle before taking a peek.
3. A link to the unfilled crossword page on The Hindu would be nice.
Hi Raghuveer,
ReplyDelete1. The answers are not hidden as the blog comes up at 8:30 AM IST, by when most would have either completed the CW or given up trying to do so. In any case since the blog is not interactive you cannot do it inline here. In case you do want to do it inline I suggest you use the App which is available through Facebook and Orkut.
2. We did try rating the puzzle as Easy, Medium, Difficult but withdrew the same as majority of the commenters here were not for it, besides various other reasons. Moreover the rating cannot be equated to what you see on Sudoku, as here what may be difficult to some may be easy for others.
3. The link to the Miscellaneous page of THE HINDU, where the crossword appears on all days less Sunday, is available on the left hand side panel of the blog under 'LINKS'
