    1. As compared to the usual 6, last time there were only 3. So I was worried if he was cutting down production. Hence, happy to see the third.

  3. 28 Physician, leader in Hyderabad, followed by a Kipling hero (5) HAKIM {H}{A}{KIM}

    Reminded me of the Zamzama of Lahore as Kipling put it:

    Who hold Zam-Zammah, that 'fire-breathing dragon', hold the Punjab, for the great green-bronze piece is always first of the conqueror's loot.

  4. Though enjoyable, I found it a little tougher than yesterday. Did not get 'roach' & 'ossa'(found wanting in GK?)Struggled a bit to get hakim.

  5. DG's carry on remark reminded of those nice comedied, especially one gag where a patient gives scotch in the urine sample leding to awe in the lab

    1. Carry on series, Crazy Boys series, those were the days

    2. Rishi Kapoor, when he started off, had the same cute look as one of the Crazy Boys. Great gags there too, the sphaghetti eating contest, the vehicle carrying spare bicycles going through a tunnel and the guy with the wind instrument blowing it out of turn....

      My memory of the scotch gag from Carry on must have been subconsciously jogged by the clue :

      1 Source of drink about which the British were worried, close to dismay (7)

      the lab guys were certainly surprised, if not worried, about the patient producing pure scotch.

    3. In the good old days of VHS cassette-players, I had a good collection of 'Carry on' movies. One of the best gags I can remember is this one:

      The 'Carry on' movies came from the stable of Rank Organization. An opening visual of any Rank movie, as everyone is aware, is a gong being beaten with a loud noise.

      In one of the movies, if I am not mistaken, in Carry on up the Khyber, a gong is being sounded to herald the arrival of the British governor at the court of a NW Indian state's ruler. One of them remarks like this - can't remember the actor - : 'I wish he had not indulged in that RANK stupidity!'. Can anyone recall this?

      What a way to poke fun at the movie's own producer! Like the way the judges at the Comedy Circus of Sony TV themselves being lampooned by the participants...

  7. Quiet enjoyable. Nicely clued.esp.20d I relished 'lay'used as verb intransitive(verb t would have given different meaning).In fine we were led up the garden path. 28d equally nice.

  8. Though I enjoy watching Comedy Circus Ajube, I find it bawdy - not fit for watching with children.

    1. Don't worry Usha you'll get to eat the samosas one fine day. The answer to your queries are given below

      Something to eat = Definition = WAFFLES
      for
      fearful wags = Anagram fodder
      cooked = Anagaram Indicator
      without =deletion indicator
      sugar = Deletion fodder
      FEARFUL WAGS minus SUGAR = FEA(-r)F(-u)L W(-ags) = FEAFLW anagrammed which gives WAFFLE

      Indian drum = TABLA
      set up = Reversal indicator
      by
      scientist = ROSS
      to get
      the sea bird = Definition = {ALBAT<=}{ROSS}

    This could also be a TD? All the three words in the clue could mean Steady.
