  1. 8D - Should have been there a container indicator?

  2. 15 Was first to take notice inside notice (6) ABIDED Anno pending

    Was first = HE(AD)ED
    notice = AD
    notice = HEED

    14 A great many welcome back good spirit (4) DEVA

    A great many = D
    welcome = AVE
    good spirit = D + EVA <=

  5. If some of the members here are wondering why there are no posts from Kishore, he is currently on a visit to Mangalore for two days, with no immediate access to the Net.

    We had an informal, limited-edition Sloggers and Bloggers meet at the house of Sridhar Shenoy Panchmal yesterday. He could soon be seen on this forum.

    Sandhya and Jagadish should be happy to read this news.

    1. Sandhya, thanks for facilitating the contact with a gentle personality.

  6. I think Sridhar SP has visited this forum before, hasn't he?

    Of course, recently there have been another Commenter by name Sridhar but he is not the Mangalorean that we have known for several years from the Orkut forum.

    1. Re 9:04 Quite unlikely. Kishore opened the THCC blog for him yesterday at his place and provided him with the first-ever view. He was happy to go through it.

    2. I am surprised. For, in the Orkut community that SSP frequents (though he was offline for some months/years), I often (once or twice quite recently on days when he was present) put in a suggestion that members visit the blog here for some lively comments on a clue/subject.

      I hiold SSP in esteem just as his numerous young relatives hold him dear.

      Sometimes I might send a private mail to friends such as Gita of CA when something that might be of interest them is put in here.

  7. 29 Organ run by northern journalist won (6) EARNED {EAR}{N}{ED} What's run doing in the clue?

    Cannot 'run by' be taken as "put down/placed adjacent to".

    Cannot it be taken as position indicator?

    As 'organ' means 'newspaper', 'run by' is apt, esp. with the word 'editor' following.

  8. A doubt about 4D-

    Is 'Line' necessary at the end? Loop by itself would mean lasso. Loop line is something used by railways- also mentioned as siding. If it is meant to mislead,fine.

  9. It is rather rare to use ladder as a verb. I had my doubts and needed to confirm.
    Any comments about 'pants' as Anind?

  10. My only doubt was on 'fisted'. Whether it can mean the same as tight-fisted. I am sure Gridman would have checked.

      Also not happy with this clue:
      24 Having extrasensory means, I let hepcat shrink (10) TELEPATHIC*

      Though shrink might be an angrind, a more apt one could have worked for surface reading. Maybe Bewildered, baffled would have worked and also conveyed that the hepcat was bewildered by setter's (I) ESP.

    3. Well not bewildered, baffled but something to that effect.

  11. Was hoping to 'sail by' this one, but 8D and 15A had me puzzled, though I got the answers. Thanks for the annos and clarifications. Good to be back!

  14. Go past bails dislodged by top Yorker (4,2) {SAIL B*}{Y}

    Actually my copy did not capitalise Yorker. In the cricketing sense it is not.
    Do you agree?

  15. Didn't expect such a badly compiled crossie from Gridman ! Is he also jumping on to the bandwagon of NJ?

    15a was not well-constructed.

    21a : NESTLE means to cuddle- does it also mean a RESORT?

    8d: LADDERED is a weak way to mean to gain popularity

    14d : DEVA ? ayyo deva deva !! poor poor as a spirit

    16d: document is deed and how does NO fit in DETE?

    19d: pants to mean to jumble CREASED?

    23d: Detective -FED? again, does FISTED lead you to be mean? Tight-fisted?
    26d: INAPT would mean not appropriate whereas, INEPT would mean clumsy.

    My remarks are being posted at 2330 hrs after I filled up the crossie .Can it be taken up for discussions tomorrow by others?
