  8. While Col did 19A, I did the opposite and mulled over the error in the clue 10A. My apologies to all solvers. It was a last minute change which led to carelessness.

    2. While we have you here, I have a few more doubts:

      16a : Traveller's or Travellers ?
      26a : How is 'belly fat' A ?
      13d : Why V ?
      18d : Request and instance?
24d : Assuming the anno is right, 'Least priority' is anagrind?

      Delete
    3. 26a : How is 'belly fat' A ?

I took belly to mean mid-section of fAt.

    4. 18d : Request and instance?

Instance: A suggestion or request: eg: called at the instance of his attorney. (Freedict)

    5. 16a : Traveller's or Travellers ?
It's traveller's. I thought it made no difference to the enu and the def?. I don't know
      26a : How is 'belly fat' A ?
Sandhya has answered that exactly. I had mid-section in mind in place of belly but changed it.
      13d : Why V ?
In the original clue there was a hyphen between Edward & V
      18d : Request and instance?
3 formal request; urging • at the instance of your partner. From Chambers.
24d : Assuming the anno is right, 'Least priority' is anagrind?
Least priority for 'a' is to place it at the end. So A moves behind IDE

      RIOT is just a DD

    6. Thanks Raghu for the clarifications.

16a : I thought you can only ignore punctuation in wordplay components, not definitions.
26a : To my mind, 'belly fat' is not the same as 'belly of fat'. May be 'fat in the middle' ?
18d : Sorry my 12th edition of Chambers did not have it, that's why I asked
24d : That makes more sense.

    7. When you use mid night for G why not belly fat? Mid section/ stomach I thought was a fair ind. Of course 'mid' directly means middle.

      Delete
    8. Midnight has a dictionary backed literal meaning 'middle of night' which in cryptic parsing points to the letter G. Similar equivalence for 'belly fat' would be 'fat in/of belly'. Does that cryptically suggest the letter A?

Like Sandhya, I understand what you meant by 'belly fat' and filled in the answer when solving. I was referring to the soundness of its cryptic meaning in comparison to 'belly of fat' (which of course wrecks the surface) to indicate A.

Madurai, yes, I remember. There were some others too.
    Can others chip in, please?
