Gombu POINTS to August 15 as the opening day of his swimming pool and gets a KNOWING GLANCE from Uncle Sam.
Soon each MEMBER of his team was TRYING to do his or her best to make the event memorable.
The ARCHWAY decorated with flowers and leaves of three different colors ADDS UP to the charm.
A few TOILED to erect the FLAGPOLE. Some shrubs nearby in DISARRAY were removed.
A RENOWNED Indian living in the region was invited to cut the ribbon, hoist the flag and deliver his speech.
A lovely silver coin with the bust of Mahatma Gandhi on one side and the logo of the pool on the obverse side was ordered to be given away as a MEMENTO.
Gombu was SURE OF SUCCESS in his venture with an auspicious beginning having been slated.
What happened next?
"SA" in 2d and "ARRAY" in 6d are not clear to me.

Yes sir, gut/throat is listed in chambers. But craw as a noun refers to pouch like part of the gut. So gut/craw may be interchangeable but then to take it to throat. Anyway since the debate about synonyms is not settled, I will take it.
