    'descry' means 'to catch sight of; discern". The first time I came across this was in Milton's Paradise Lost when I was in college.
    'sere' I met when I was in school. In Ben Jonson's poem
    It is not growing like a tree

    In bulk doth make Man better be;

    Or standing long an oak, three hundred year,

    To fall a log at last, dry, bald, and sere:

    A lily of a day
Is fairer far in May,
    Although it fall and die that night— 

    It was the plant and flower of light.
    In small proportions we just beauties see;

    And in short measures life may perfect be.

    The Tuscan artist is Galileo.

    In sport, meeting of two teams is a tie between them (not necessarily scores being level)
    (eg) A tie between CSK amd MI is worth watching.
