      I saw it Ram. But Ramki's guess was not very specific. There were many setters in IXL. What we expected was a name [as we really still don't know who all were the setters in IXL]

    Such a long anagram in 3 Dn was nice with funny surface. In 27 Ac. I guess 'driver' indicates the first letter. Is that so?

    I didn't understand 13A and 28A even with the annos. Could someone help?
    13A - how do you get set? What is the indication to take only W and E from wife?
    28A - how do you get late?

      Hi Sujatha!

      13A Cake (verb) means to harden/solidify/stiffen/set

      On vacation is an indicator for deletion of central letters. As in on evacuation/emptying. Thus Set around W(-if)E

      28A Late (adj) means Recent, up-to-date, current. Recession is rev ind. Thus HER+E in LATE rev.

    To get off or ride a high horse is a phrase to allude to hubris but ‘high horse’’ by itself is a galloping guess ! But I can take it in the chin !


    I erred widely in my guess as to the authorship as quite a few words in yesterday’s grid made me jump the gun ! Sorry for that ! I didn’t know that you have become a national asset like Gridman in the world of cryptic crosswords. Way to go , Doc ! That’s an eye-opener.

      Susegad? My poor Hindi.
      Just now looked up Bhrashtachar- as the group discussion was going on.
      Nowadays, they freely use a lot of Hindi words as though everyone knows about them- probably not so in the South ( in spite of my boasting to know and having converesd in Hindi) Ghatbandan was another word- probably the negative shade of it in which it is being used.
