  1. The two TIERed FREIGHT truck carrying TVS APACHE motorbikes was THREADing its way through the heavy traffic on Hosur Road. EDISON, the driver, a VETERAN on this stretch, was CAPABLE of manoeuvering the huge vehicle just with his RIGHT HAND, thanks to his strong BICEPS. However, today his concentration was AFFECTED by the pain in the CARBUNCLE in his neck, that was made worse by the CHEAP SALVE he had applied on it. In a CARELESS moment, he released the DISC brake too quickly, the vehicle picked up SPEED suddenly, causing the BACKSTOP to SHEAR away. The bikes rolled out because of the gradient on the road and caused a PILE-UP behind the truck. OBSCENE shouts were heard that would have made a PRUDE blush. In SCARCEly a minute a BATTERY operated rescue vehicle was on the scene to clear the mess. The accident was the PRINCIPAL story of the evening news on TV. The scrolling headlines read "Bikes that BOOMERANGed in Bengaluru".

  3. Wasted some time looking for a 5 letter mountain range since I had not got the thread (26A) by then.Otherwise an easy roll out.

  4. In today's CW alone-
    E= Engineer,Eastern,electromotive force,Energy,Electronic,Oriental,European
    Not complaining,but wondering about possibilities one has to contend with in cryptic CW's.

  5. 28A also deluded me for a while.

  6. EDISON for a change (wonder why) threw the DISCUS with his left instead of his RIGHT HAND.

    The act BOOMERANGED and he fell down. What a CARELESS act!

    Thank God! There was a benevolent doctor from Trichy among the VETERANS taking part in the games. He with LIGHTNING SPEED took him and treated Edison for his BICEPS and SLIP DISC.

    Then the discussion turned to what Edison is doing now.

    He is none other than the disc jockey over there playing among other tunes APACHE by The Shadows!!

  7. Thanks CG for craftily including me in your interesting tale. And I happen to specialize in slipped discs!

  9. I relate 2Dn to something exciting, a la "Adventure of blue carbuncle" rather than something painful. Is it not elementary!

    1. Well, A doctor and Conan Doyle may not look at it the same way.
      Yes, I too remembered Holmes on reading the clue.

    2. Holmes might think so but would Dr.Watson, the surgeon think of the gem orinfection? 😊

    3. But the creator ( Doyle) himself was a doctor.

  12. Pile up is a verb whereas pileup is a noun (sometimes hyphenated)
