Dr RKE's TalePiece
"The COAST is clear" cried out the deckhand, watching out through the OCULUS on the port side of the ship. The GYROSCOPE mounted RANGEfinder indicated that they were only a nautical mile from their target, which was the fan beam LANTERN of the lighthouse. This was planned as the first step in the INVASION of the island nation by the revolutionaries. They wanted to CLEANSE the counry from the evils of a dictatorial regime, one that denied its citizens basic rights like EDUCATION. The STAGNANT economy was fast turning the nation into a CAULDRON of political unrest. The leader of the revolutionaries, who thought of himself being DESTINED to be in the CHAIR of the president, twirled his MOUSTACHE and in his RESONANT voice declared "Boys, This is a REMINDER to you to RECALL the sacrifice of our brethern, who have been hanged for TREASON while their only crime was demanding basic civil rights. Their spirit UNITES us. This is our LAST STAND. What you do today will decide whether the country EVOLVES into a democracy and reaches the high NOON of her potential". Did they achieve what they wished? Who knows? My wife NUDGEd me awake from my slumber before the dream could get into the climax

DeleteSince everyone has got a lot of time due to lockdown why don't those who have never set CW's try to set one for the Sunday specials. Need not be a 15x15, it can be a 13x13 also
ReplyDeleteVery good suggestion, Col.
DeleteCan we expect from Paddy/MB to start with? Are you listening Paddy/MB?
Also, it has been a long time since we saw Vasant's grid.
No Lockdown here. Still going to work. With project work going, I have very little time. Also the creative juices have been stagnant since long.
DeleteListening, but not very confident. Maybe some guidance from one of you to make a combined effort.
ReplyDeleteAlso, not very computer savvy.
You can download qxw software which is free. I will send you the guide.
DeleteYou can create your own grid. Also you can either auto fill or fill manually.
A doubt about 13A- RI from time? Vacation+ RI-C?
ReplyDeleteLooked for RI in the ref.list
RI Religious Instruction is there in the Reference List
DeleteSorry Col. I don't know how I missed it.
DeleteSuperb last sentence! Should it occur at the climax?
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteProbably, wife felt it was the time for BJP, ie., bartan jhadu pocha!!![during lockdown]

ReplyDeleteWhat a TALE piece :-) Enjoyed solving after a looong time!! thanks to the lockdown
ReplyDeleteWelcome back David
DeleteHi! Those who are interested in setting a crossword but are not computer savvy or lack the technical software...you can mail me at satyennabar@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI will set the crossword for you and send you the words to be clued, Across and Down. If you desire to include a few specific words, let me know so in your email.
I will add the clues you set in the Compiler and forward the Cwd as an AcrossLite file to Col Sir for Sunday Special. The crossword in its entirety will of course remain totally yours.
Wow! I will give it a try.
ReplyDeleteBut I hate to call it my own after so much help from you.
To be honest, it's no big deal. Look forward to your email Paddy :)
DeleteThanks Dr Satyen. I have sent you a mail requesting you to send me a grid filled with words. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Will do that Rengaswamy. Have fun :)
DeleteThanks Satyen
ReplyDeleteGreat gesture, Doc! This will get many wanna be setters on board. Grid filling is a difficult and daunting task..especially for me..
ReplyDeleteOnce a grid is filled, the clue, more often than not, flows. For me who doesn't auto fill and looks for a theme, this is more difficult.
But if you do the hard grind and fill on your own.. that is very satisfying.
