Dr RKE's TalePiece

Bianca Raimondi, an OPERA singer, had chosen a red GARIBALDI for her BRIDAL attire, instead of the traditional white dress. This tradition had EXISTEd in her family as some generations ago, a woman from her family had been a Red shirt in the First Italian Independance War. Her ADMIRER, Jose ALAMEDA, owned a chain of EMPORIA, selling COLLECTOR'S ITEMs from SPAIN. He was wearing  a SEEMLY red CRAVAT to match with his bride's dress. Being understandably NERVOUS before the big event, he had to bolster his confidence with some CHAMPAGNE before leaving home to the office of the REGISTRAR of marriages. The drive would have normally taken only 20 minutes, but today, of all days, there was a traffic SNARL EN ROUTE. There was no way his PERSONAL vehicle, a huge ESTATE car could find ROOM to wiggle out of the choc-a-bloc traffic. SIGNALMEN to whom he explained his plight were helpless as a huge truck had run AGROUND and it would be 2 hours before it was cleared. Growing TIRED of waiting, he decided to LEG it to the venue. He arrived panting and in an INFLAMEd state of mind but the moment he saw the angelic face of his bride, his nerves were soothed. Those who have never fallen in love, will never understand the chemistry of such a magical transformation. Its power is far greater than any magical AMULET!

  5. We had Spa=well yesterday and it made it easy.
Learned a few new words/ usage (mule) Long ones were nice and doable which made the task easier. 100% but still had difficulty in parsing a few.

    2. Sorry. I meant to ask 'Middle of', which is used for selection of OA from road and placing'per' in the middle.

  8. Dr. RKE's 'talepieces' are gaining admirers by the day and could one day become collectors item; hoping that I request him not to include them in his personal estate.

    2. I remember my school days when our English teacher giving few words and asking us to knit a story.
If such events are there in competitions, I am sure RKE would get first place.

  10. Some clarification please:

12A - clue says "you in France" should it be French?
16A and 24A - use 'over' to indicate container. Is it ok?
24A - is 'up' anagram indicator.

Thankful to CV sir or anyone else who can answer.

    1. I too had the same doubt on 12A. but I could not react as I am in middle stage.but, I perceive that setter placed the Noun component as France. but while solving, experts were taken into language of the place so as to get the meaning[you].

  11. Both France and French are used- when you are in France you say it in French.
24A-Up is a generally a reversal indicator in Down clues. But of late it is also being used in Ac.clues as well.
Over- I think so. You put one over something to contain it.
