  3. SUSAN came all the way from SAUDI, wearing her RA-RA-SKIRT to Hyderabad.

Among other things, she wanted to visit the CHARMINAR and go to the Salar Jung Museum to study the POTTERY.

She felt THIRSTY and entered a nearby cafeteria.

    Lo and behold!

Sitting in a corner was Sam with his NOODLES and BACON!!

    Seeing Susan Sam BUCKLED.

    Then what did he say?

    LAUS DEO!!!

Although wp hints about charm and rani precisely, didn't get how charm should come first

    2. Holding up is supporting from below in a down clue indicates reversal of RANI is supporting CHARM. RANI<< is supporting CHARM (entrance)

    3. Let's look at it closely.

Queen’s holding up / entrance / to famous landmark
INAR rev of rani + CHARM - doesn't work
Queen’s / holding up entrance / to famous landmark
      RANI + MRAHC - doesn't work
If I am going wrong, where am I going wrong?
(With the ack that I am liable to go wrong bec of infirmities)

    4. Agree - UP seems to be doing double duty - reversing RANI and part of "holding up". A reversal indicator for Queen or a separate indicator that Queen is below CHARM would have been kosher, IMO. Sorry for this lapse and thanks for the feedback

    5. Thanks for looking at it the way I did. All in the interests of critical appreciation, not by way of criticism.

    6. Queen, on the way to the top, is holding up entrance to famous landmark (9) would work. On the way to the top is reversal indicator and Holding up indicates RANI<<< is below CHARM

  6. An enjoyable challenge. WP was precise ( Except perhaps the novelty clues of 8D and 11A).

    1. I took as whole as connected clue.

Show id is X (as in caller ID) which is "show id" = display number, X= ten.

ID = di's play, stand alone looks OK
But the break up of clue has confused.

    2. Display: I thought it was an RA with Splay as Anagrind. So ID*

  7. Sathia, that is incorrect. There is a simpler annotation

  8. Col. Deepak, the annotation for 11A needs correction, It is a DD . 8 Down in cricket is NUmber Ten as is X in Roman numerals
