    2. Think of a newspaper article/leader and a currency that rhymes with "layer" (in crossword parlance). Electronic is obvious

    3. Components are obvious. Anno!

    4. While the reversal indicator is there, container indicator is missing. "About" is doing double duty

      Delete
    5. This seems to be the best explanation - About is on Double duty - once as a container and again as a reversal indicator.

    6. IMSO: double duty is not using an indicator twice!
It's a word that is part of fodder and also indicator like
      Hat would be dry (5)

    7. But surely it cannot be
      Hat be dry!

  4. My take-
    Article- OP ED
    OP(ENY)ED= Open Eyed
Yen is currency about is anind.
    But why electronic?

    1. {OP{E YEN}*ED} = OPEN -EYED

    2. This seems right- no anag,no reversal and with about as container ind.
The 2 e's came in handy and I missed it.

  5. This cannot be right since YEN >> ENY would be an indirect anagram

    1. About also is on double duty as container and anagrind.
      Can't think of anything better.

  6. You are missing an E, ie from electronic ok

    ReplyDelete
  7. YEN IS NEY , NOT ENY
    Electronic =E
    ENEY
OP ENEY ED = OPEN EYED

    ReplyDelete
  8. So it has to be
    OPE(NEY E=<)D
With about as reversal indicator. Container?

  9. Interesting grid. esp. 7AC. OPEN EYED was the hit list. I have cracked it. but annotation was not perfect one as expected. obviously vertical grid helps for solution. Thank you WrdPlougher.

16D ....too much deletion and anagrams. time taking one.
