  3. To help himself stand firmly on the GROUND in BOGOTA, Vladimir held the
BARS near the kerb for SUPPORT.
DUE TO the gale both his UMBRELLA and TOPI were blown off.
Losing HEART was not to be found with Vladimir...PERIOD
He was seen to SCRATCH his head and sing
"Ae Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa"

  5. Unfair to call CHO just a 'Tamil actor'. He was multifaceted 🙂

    1. I remember CHO was a regular with NAIR and SEN in TH crosswords, decades back.
      CHO was referred as politician

    2. +1(though I don't know nair and sen, i used to see his references.),
If you are referring to a certain CHO Ramaswamy.

    3. I had the privilege of meeting CHO Ramaswamy in his Greenways Road office once in Chennai, around 15 years ago, when I was studying for +2. I grew up near that area, not more than 5 minutes away on foot. The meeting was regarding some project work I had done in school, the details of which elude me. I recall that he was generous with his time, and I think he signed one or two books containing his plays for me.

  9. 17D I didn't understand how to get SN from 'players'.

    Reference list gives
"Partners = N,S(North and South in Bridge card game)"
May be it should replace partners with players.

    1. North and South are denoted as partners in a game of bridge the other two being East and West

    2. Maybe he meant E foe English and NSN as players (not partners) If it is just N&S, Incognito would have used partners.

    3. Reference list has to list players for SN is what I mean.
Bridge is a game I know very well.

Bond fixes cards and bids 7 clubs(grand slam) in one of the famous games in movies/novels. Though I like the straight flush in Casino Royale more.

  10. A fine puzzle from Incognito, perhaps a SMIDGEON harder than usual. I found that I had to disengage from autopilot mode to solve a handful of clues - 11A ALLERGEN (for which the anagrind proved unusually elusive), 16A WHISKEY (for which the unusual crossings of ?H?S?E? were not enough to remind me of the pleasures of the drink), 27A GROUND (for which I needed to do some research), 4D SCRATCH (for which I only had ?C???C? until the end) and 24D BOGOTA (which took embarrassingly long, considering BOA as "stole" had appeared in a recent THC edition).

There were 6 DD clues, which is more than usual for Incognito. I found it interesting that a number of clues were of a "hybrid" variety that did not fall neatly into one bucket or the other. 10A was a telescopic clue with deletions. 8A UNCLOTHED, 1D KABBALAH and 17D ENSNARED were partly charades and partly anagrams. Thanks Kishore for the puzzle.
