    1. The first entry in this blog is "No 9447 Wednesday, February 4, 2009, M.Manna" so it would appear that Col. has blogged around 5500 THC grids, as well as numerous special puzzles over a period of just under 15 years.

  20. Here are 2 clues from The Daily Mail, for which I have the solution but whose annotations remain elusive. I hope any of the blog followers are able to assist me with my understanding.
    ---
Explorer after setback brooded with staff (6)
Solution: TASMAN; definition: Explorer. Wordplay: ??? (is it a charade?)
    ---
Fanciful behaviour in old gentleman detective, it's said (6)
Solution: WHIMSY; definition: Fanciful behaviour; Wordplay: ??? (probably a homophone clue)

    1. My best guess for the first clue is:
Explorer after setback brooded with staff (6)
Solution: TASMAN; definition: Explorer. Wordplay: staff = MAN, brooded = SAT, after setback = reversal indicator. Therefore {TAS<=}{MAN} is the annotation.

      Still no ideas for WHIMSY.
