DeleteI'd say it absolutely reads more naturally as an insertion indicator. Things that are "worn" like clothes, go on the outside.
DeleteHowever, there's a British slang use for "wearing" https://www.thefreedictionary.com/wear (#11) that means "Accepting", which I think one could argue could apply inversely.
I'd accept either, but the second, (wearing = "Accepting") is more tricky, backwards, and very much the exception.
Depends on how you read it.
