  6. I am having difficulty in parsing a clue from The Daily Mail. I am hoping any of the blog regulars can shed light on the matter.

    Release Eastern European, reportedly, to travel (3,2)
    Solution = LET GO
    Release = Definition
    To travel = GO

    My question is: how do we get LET from "Eastern European, reportedly"? What is the connection? Is there some nationality that I am missing? I have seen Eastern European = POLE (and by homophone operation, ~POLL). But the logic for Eastern European = LET has stumped me thus far.

    1. I think it is a homophone of Lett (resident of Latvia, i.e. East European). From Wikipedia

      Latvians (Latvian: latvieši) are a Baltic ethnic group and nation native to Latvia and the immediate geographical region, the Baltics. They are occasionally also referred to as Letts, especially in older bibliography.
