    DOLLAR ?

Dont ask me why. Ours not to reason why ...

    Is change due tomorrow?

  2. I thought today was slightly better than the rest in this run

  3. Kishore,
DOLLAR is correct as the Dollar sign was first used by the Mexicans and adopted by the US later

  4. 23 - Look around the market in the east for these antelopes (8) - {GAZE}LL{E}{S} Anno pending

    Look around = GAZE
Market in the east should have been from the east, LLES<-

  5. 3 - Lift up the new suitcase at last in the city (6) - ?D???E

EDIRNE, a city in northwestern Turkey

    Lift up = EDIR <-
    New = N

    sop
n 1: piece of solid food for dipping in a liquid

not sure where OD is coming from.

  7. OD: OffereD on edge I thought, or I should say, maybe as the setter thought?

    ReplyDelete
  8. An edge..

Can we use both edges of offered?

    ReplyDelete
  9. OD:

    We have indeed ODed.

  10. @Kishore,
    thought 'twas messy
    but given it is NJ-ji
    it must be edgy

Minors got a lecture from the soil expert (10) - AGRONOMIST*

For me, allowing for the ana grrr ind, a perfect clue to understand why a clue must be Definition FROM wordplay and not the other way around as here..

  11. Loosk like 11A's "N" has eluded all the sages here..

    ReplyDelete
  12. 11 - An understandable officer is in this place on time (8) -{CO}{HERE}N{T} 'N' from ?

    Officer = CON(stable) ?

  13. @Kishore, @Veer good edge detection.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Veer, your ref to 'sage' evokes memories of WM Thackeray's 'A tragic story', which perfectly describes the antics of the sages here.

  15. @ Bhavan. You have reduced a policeman to a CON man. ;-)

  16. I+SOP=OD

OD from offered on an edge, OfferedD.

    Really?

Our compiler has their own rules, their own devices.

At least, they could have said "on edges", though that would have been unidiomatic, as the phrase is "on edge".

And, pray, what does "offered on an edge" mean?

  17. I think my post above has been anticipated by others. Excuse me for repetition.

  18. Kishore@9.12 : Don't shoot the messenger :)

  19. = must be +
But you knew that, didn't you.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Bhavan 9.07, That leads to a problem of c/c indicator, no?
The only possibility, "in" in the clue would make one think CON should be in HERE and not the other way..
Given we are stretching, and how we have seen NJ unique interpretation of lunch time as 1, can time be NoonTime or NT?

    ReplyDelete
  21. @CV, you should be glad you weren't here yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. CV: Good to have you here.

Bhavan: All of us are on an edge (may be more than one). Consider yourself un-shot.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Veer I'm not saying CON is right, it was just a thought.

At the rate we have to stretch, we'll soon need not have the clue itself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 11 - An understandable officer is in this place on time (8) -{CO}{HERE}N{T} 'N' from ?

What's the role of 'An' here? Does the clue as written make you think that what is reqd is an adj?

In the setter's book perhaps on leads to o'.

Is there any phrase where o' is on?
cf. will-o'-the-wisp where o' is of.

  25. Veer 918, as the ad went 'Anything is possible with a Nicki-Tasha kitchenette'.

  26. @Bhavan 9.22: Your comment, At the rate we have to stretch, we'll soon need not have the clue itself, is the best part of this crossword series!! Most I have laughed in the past hour or so!

Suppose you decide you will give only answers which are derived without any questions?
    No answer is given unquestioningly...
The 8-30 a.m. deadline may be extended as you patiently resolve all doubts, putting off your breakfast.

  28. CV sir, in the time you were recovering, we on the blogs went through a mini AA session of our own and have quit flogging a dead horse!!

But while we are picking just for old times sake, how about this for wholly unnecessary padding?

Gun with zero markings on it (8)

Again allowing for the ana grr ind, the clue stands on its own without the gratuitous "on it" - is this possibly NJ's attempt at an &-lit?

Did you have a chance of peeking at the bottom bikini (not on the shelf but at the appropriate place) that the Aus designer has withdrawn?

    ReplyDelete
  30. CV@9.29 : I was in Byron Bay couple of weeks ago, but all I got to see along the coast were regular bikinis (Please note I didn't say non-controversial :)
