  2. 23 - It is not in preference for the abbey (6) - PRIORY [CD]

    I thought this was PRIOR(-it)Y where preference = priority

  3. I know I am FLOG<-ing a dead horse, but there was some discussion long back whether the MGM lion's sound is a roar or a growl.

    PRIOR[-it]Y

  5. 21 and 6 - Three children fall on the French back-street (8) - {TRIP}{LE}{TS<-}
    This is given as 21A (4) TRIP & 6A (4) LETS

    Breaking the solution which contains two or more words is common. But, it appears to be the first time in THC that a single word solution is bisected and given in two places.

    Any comments?

    Has this been done in The Times?

  6. 14 - Model, being pregnant, has gate moved inwards (3-2) - PIN-UP Anno pending

    Gate moved inwards could refer to IN being inserted.P(IN)UP But yet to get link between PUP and pregnant

  7. SRV, I have also not come across this type of split for a single word. Luckily the two split parts are valid words in themselves, though they cannot be enumerated at 4-4.

  8. Kishore,
    pregnant = INPUP
    gate (IN) moving inwards
    gives P(IN)UP

  9. I Googled for Inpup without success ;-(

  10. This is a word used in veterinary practice.

  11. BTW, Doc, are you a people doc or a pup doc?

  12. Two people seem to think today's puzzle was an average offering. Wondering what is missing from this to make it a good puzzle in their opinion.

  13. Reminding me of old times when ,during college film shows,we used to roar with the lions (or growl if Kishore prefers that way)

  14. Col.,
    We are better off in Chennai with only 1 hour power shutdown!This has been before the change of Govt.and is continuing as on date.Man is always hopeful of a better tomorrow!

  15. When I mentioned use of inpup in veterinary practice, it is not as a technical term but for communicating with laypersons about their pets/animals.

    Some people call me a 'paper doctor'! Mayhaps (maybe + perhaps) as the work is in the 'corridors of power' a la Sankalak.

  18. Average has gone to 15!! Some people seem to be unhappy with Gridman's offering today.

  19. Here is CV sir's response on the Orkut site (to my query @ 08:43):

    Re 6 and 21

    Gridman may be using this device for the first time but I think Sankalak has had it in THC on a couple of occasions.

    Decades ago, I have come across it in a UK crossword that used to appear in The Mail [of Madras].

  20. Dropped to 13. Can anyone undo their choice? Or mess with the score by extra-clicks?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kishore,
    Change your specs, it's still 15. Choice cannot be undone and if I am not wrong you are allowed only one click in each of the options.
