    CHURCH CD

27 - Good Shepherd finds time to take out French man with holy oil (6) -

    CHRIS(-m)(+T)

With Christ, Church and Tabernacle that could be one theme.

Also Wellington and Christchurch could form another theme.

  10. Colonel, sorry about flooding the comments and the duplicate answers.

  11. Meant to take out the ones that you already posted, but forgot while copy + paste.

  12. Regarding the Church theme:

    Apart from the answers:
    CHURCH TABERNACLE CHRIST

we have the following in the clues:
place of worship, holy oil, Disrobes (unfrocks?),Cain

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think 27 A would be CHRIST not CHRISM with timde taking out French man in the holy oil.

    ReplyDelete
  14. With no deadlines I was unable to complete the crossword, with so many words I haven't heard.

  15. Suresh, 1017, that is what I said at 841

    ReplyDelete
  16. But I allow that it can be parsed both ways:

27 Good Shepherd finds time to take out CHRIST-T

    French man with +M

    holy oil (6) CHRISM

    OR
    27 Good Shepherd =def=CHRIST

    finds time +T
to take out French man -M

    with holy oil (6) CHRISM

However, on Deep-er thought, I go with Deep-ak and think the former parsing is correct and the answer is CHRISM , not Christ.

    Neyartha can possibly confirm.

  17. How is cheer of approval becomes RAH?
Crossing is not tallying with 10 Ac. and 7 Dn.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Muthaiah,

RAH is short for Hurrah. See RAH

There was a typo in my 10A though the Anno was shown correctly, that's why you found the crossings with 7D not matching, I have since corrcetd it.

  19. Such long-winded clues! If I didn't know any better, I might have mistaken one 'N' setter for another.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Easy enough to hunt up obscure words and put them in a puzzle. Not so easy to take common words/expressions and come up with creative and interesting clues that keep the solver engaged. But let's see the rest of the run!

  21. Have been struggling with this arcane and not cryptic crossword. No-arth,nahiaatha!!

Intend keeping awake until I (don't) get to crack it.

    If I fail---- neit.
