  1. 2 - Nature of Corbett's tigers in a part of Uttarkhand (3-6) - MAN-EATING [CD]

Is there any further word play, I wondered, or is the reference to 'in a part of ...'just a filler, which is anachronistic?

  2. On further thought, Corbett's book was Man eaters of Kumaon, which is in the present state of Uttarkhand, earlier part of Uttar Pradesh, earlier United Provinces.

  3. 12 - Edward's drooping of the spleen is hereditary (6) - LINEAL Anno pending

    spleen = LIEN (archaic)
    of spleen = LIENAL
    Edward's(E) drooping or moving down.

  5. Thought this was easier than yesterday. Was there a theme?

    ReplyDelete
  6. BAGATELLE PROKOFIEV, HARMONICA, LINES

    Music is a theme

    ReplyDelete
  7. VIVA also would be a part of the theme

  8. 21D- What is the indication for the deletion of 'n'?
15A- "after commencement of winter"- I put 'w' and got stuck.

  9. 22A- What is the indicator for change of spelling for both sea & bird? Is it "in conversation"?

  13. Suresh @9.51 : Thanks.

I'm somehow not convinced that 4 or 5 answers out of 27 odd make a theme, but that's probably just my idiosyncrasy.

  14. You are right of course, Bhavan.

Maybe it is not a 'theme', just a few clues on a common subject.

Nonplussed is a mild sounding word for what I would prefer using, that is "Dhunned" (U pronounced as in put).

  18. Suresh, that reminds me of an old favourite song:

.. Ek dhund se aana hai, ek dhund mein jaana hai...

  19. The movie is based on Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest.

  20. I managed to compete this crazy wordplay, as most of the words or phrases were literally fitted in as possible and not palusible answers. Like TENUOUS, LINEAL, INTERLACE, SEABIRD, etc.
Looks like the compiler had fitted in words and worked up some offbeat lights for the solvers.

I didn't enjoy this one bit. Sorry, Neyartha, put some arths into your cluing 'techniques'. No skills displayed. What a shame!!

  21. Kishore except that I am except that dhund is only foggy while dhunned is much worse like stupefied.

  22. Msg from Raju:

Man eaters of Kumaon- tigers. Man eaters of Tsavo were lions .You must have heard and read the book written with this title that talked about the mysterious lions that used to gobble up the Indian coolies who went to build the Railways for the colonial masters in Kenya in Arab Dhows. The two lions were cdubbed the Ghost and the Darkness.

What to speak of the adventurous Indians in those days who went in quest of jobs to East Africa at the turn of the last Century and now? Westwards ho has turned to Eastwards back by the NRIs . Come a full circle , eh?
