DeleteSmooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth
ReplyDeleteAgree with Suresh. Arden has been in excellent touch this run
Deletenot so smooth for me
ReplyDeleteWhy is parts of London ec ?
ReplyDeleteBarbadkatte,
DeleteSee the link over the word 'parts of London' in the main post above.
Thanks. I found a link (http://www.puzzletome.com/crossword/tutorial.php ) that gives a list of abbreviations used by setters.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure solving Arden's latest.
Another good and enjoyable crossword. Arden's present run has been excellent as was Buzzer's.
ReplyDeleteI needed 17D to take on the tough, though pleasant, task of solving the next raising the bar edition of Arden CW. Enjoying it immensely though I could not complete- "takes years of practice" as Col. put it and I probably have a few more to go!
ReplyDelete1 - Blowing wind takes away interest in an invalid case (7) - MISTRAL MISTRAiL
ReplyDeleteProbably a typo.
An invalid case - MISTRIAL
Taking away I(nterest), makes it MISTR[-i]AL (Defn: blowing wind)
nice.didn't get 29 a and 6 d.
ReplyDeleteVery enjoyable and challenging run.
ReplyDeleteEveryone here agrees with Col's Opening remark.
ReplyDeleteLike Sankalak's puzzles, Arden's are pure magic with difficulty level a bit high.
Students of THCC will enjoy all the more because of this blog.
Thank you Deepakji.
No nitpicking, this.
ReplyDelete11 A - Sorrow for Bill who is after a painting guarded by a man at each end (9) - HEARTACHE {HE}{ART}{A/C}{HE}
...at either end would have sounded better, perhaps. Did I hear someone exclaim 'Nazi!'?
Finally getting the measure of the man! The wordplay and surfaces are neat.
ReplyDelete@Richard 1:12 -- I think many a time we feel we could tweak the clue to read just a shade better, so I know what you mean. For eg, when doing 18A I thought 'container' instead of 'drum' would have made for a better surface, not that there's anything wrong with the clue
