With ref to PM and the cartoon, two memories:

When the 1000 Rs note was de-monetised, PM is reputed to have rolled one into a cigarette and smoked it.

When an ex President, originally a carpenter by profession, was informed by then PM, that she wanted to make a new cabinet, reportedly asked her what size would the cabinet be, of what wood and where it would be placed...

Mostly agree, but wish he does away with clues like 10A & 27A

  3. 26 - She may have her nose turned up! (4) - SNOB [CD] Why She only?

I think we are used to the gender stereotyping for certain nounal definitions in clues. Which is why clueing a HE for snob might catch us as unaware as a SHE for, say boxer

  6. What an apt example for 'deadpan'!!
I was reminded of regular Narasimha Rao cartoons with his mouth zipped across!
That was a good one about carpenter & cabinets form Kishore ! Once a carpenter, always a carpenter.

Once a Carpenter, always a Carpenter - e.g. Richard and Karen of 'Close to You' and 'Jambalaya' fame (of course there many more hits).

  7. In yesterday's comments. Kishore: It wasn't Amitabh but Dharmender who was hamming : Chakki pisiing, chakki pisiing ! is it Pis?ing the audience off or an attempt to woo Amma malini who was his already during the shooting of the movie?

Have ye-all noticed as to how though every one in the media had mentioned about Rajesh Khanna having been adopted but nary a word about his biological parent's names ? Does any one know? Giving birth, unknown ,unsung uncelebrated to a super nova !

My wife misses her opportunity to do a great obituary to the fallen meteor-- had she been in Nairobi, she would have sent all those oldies in a frenzy for the whole day on FM 106. He was her all time favourite and I join her in her mourning her hero. Any astrological prognostication as to why he died on aadi amaavasya?
