ReplyDeleteThe theme is ORNAMENTS!
While Deepak's intro gave a gentle hint to the theme, this Comment lays it bare without giving a chance to readers to think for a while.
DeleteParty-poopers are not in Mangalore alone.
We have been shamed by a small bunch. Decent people are running for cover.
DeleteAgree wholeheartedly.
DeleteCalling computer whizkids. Help!
ReplyDeleteTake the captions:
My SPA project is hosed
Nokia Is Hosed, and Time Is Running Out
What does the phrase "is hosed" mean?
broken, in trouble (screwed).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Venkatesh.
DeleteFor OVERPAYS, an NYT clue is "Is hosed". I just couldn't see how the expressions are equated.
20 - Listener’s distress in the arena (4) - RING [DD]
ReplyDeleteThis might be a homophone of wring (v) meaning to cause distress
I find it difficult to get annos of solved words difficult with Neyartha's clues- say for example 1A. I am not sure if anyone shares this problem with me.
ReplyDeleteBy overpaying its staff, the company incurs a loss - 'is hosed'.
ReplyDeleteHOSED - acronym used sometimes for Hardware Or Software Error Detected.
May be this results in overpayment made to the beneficiary/employee and loss to the bank/company!
Thanks. Your notes have been useful.
DeleteA toughie today
ReplyDeleteMore nebulous than tough would be my take, one has to be careful if trying to unscramble too literally! And not a man of few words is he?
DeleteTough but good one. Suffragist i guessed based on junction letters and anagram clue. New word i learnt today! Featherbeds was a wild shot too. Learnt the "sporting funda" today. Screed was the only one i couldn't get. Got paella thanks to its reference in the movie znmd!
ReplyDeleteMy view of Today's crossword :
ReplyDeleteNot easy though the centre was unstrung (5)
ABHI: Just finished your effort.
ReplyDeleteEVA MENDES and LOST and TOLEDO were clever.
If you can create such an interesting cryptic crossword, Why can't you join the HCC family? Also try whether you can join the list of compilers for the Hindu. You were quite modest to say that this blog helps you in solving. You are way past it now, since you can compile.
Way to go !!
+1
DeleteSome long 'algorithms' that put one off (e.g. 1A, 7D). That's not to take away the credit for the good clues, despite that fact that I didn't get some of them, like 13, 21 and 22D.
