Neyartha in a poetic mood today. How many of you got 18D without Googling for it, as there was no word play to get the answer.

Is 24A ok ? No indicator for acrostic? And yeah 5A is a bit iffy
ReplyDeleteNot required as H, AI and KU are standard abvns.
Delete5 D Could the ans be B(ONNET). Probably means B replaces S from leading (s)inger?. Wordplay not explicit here.
ReplyDelete24 D: Kuwait Airways should ideally be KA. Otherwise airways has no role.

ReplyDeletePlease see Clue 26ac. in THC by Gridman pub. on Sat, May 25 (a puz that was blogged by Kishore).
Though 18dn in today's puzzle has no wordplay, those who had cracked that cryptic clue might have had a familiar bell rung in them - though one is singular and the other is plural form of the word.
I didn't solve the CW that day due to the breavement in the family. Even if I had, I doubt it would have rung a bell, even though it was just a week ago. Let's see how many commenters here got it without a problem.
DeleteI could get the word by the crossings. I did not know the meaning.
Delete24a is not an acrostic. As shown by the Col, Henry gives H, Air India gives AI. KU must be airways ID for Kuwait Airways.
ReplyDeleteYes CV it is the IATA code for Kuwait Airways.
DeleteWell, well, well.
ReplyDeleteI had a woman chasing me just a while ago!
Honestly, it was the .xe effect!
Finding that I had forgotten to replace bath soap in the soap dish, I stole a dollop of shower gel from a bottle that is not owned by me.
When I emerged out of the bathroom, I could feel the effect working - not exactly palpably but verbally.
I saw whether there were other women behind the old, familiar face - not one.
Beware of battle-axes...
DeleteI am yet to get any confirmation for the abbr. KU fro Kuwait.
ReplyDeleteKU is the abbr for their Flight number. As IC is for Indian Airlines, Spice Jet has SG.
DeleteThank-you everybody who gave the confirmation.
DeleteThe airport code is KWI. Google mentions both KWI and KU as IATA code for Kuwait.
ReplyDeleteWrt the recent story about protests in Mumbai over scantily clad mannequins (I was wondering whether there isn't any gender form for this word), I too am of the view that such displays must be in-store and not at shop windows.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a letter but letters of mine published must be a very small percentage of letters I wrote and sent. I asked: shouldn't {male] mannequins wearing micromini briefs be not admissible as well.
That window display has deletrious effects on people cannot be denied.

How about those hideous looking hoardings that are mounted on main roads and half or full page ads showing men in briefs (why are they called so, I wonder !) They're equally vulgar and offensive .Or those ads for men's body sprays making them looking 'macho' (etym for machaan?) with silly looking bimbette girls swooning over? Whither creative copy-writing?
Delete5 D still to be resolved. I'm confused about the Def and wordplay. I assumed ans was B ONNET
ReplyDeleteWe will know only on Monday as Neyartha is incommunicado.
DeleteAs the reference is to Wordsworth, it can only be SONNET Cap- BONNET- replace B with S. A bit off but its OK, as I feel.
DeleteComing from Kenya, KA stands for Kenya Airways and not Kuwait Airways.
ReplyDeleteToday, Nyartha seemed out of sorts. So many unexplained cluing. To wit, where does the N fit in 10A RInG ?
Happened to be not one of my favourite solving days. A crossie that one would wish would be filled in any which way and be done with.
Solved 18D without googling. I had ALLEGRO in mind without any crossings, but once 17A fell in place, it was plain what was intended.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I agree with Ragunath about 'Airways' in 24A. A bit confusing, at a glance.
