  1. Quite an enjoyable CW today. Somewhat on easier scale. :-)))

    1. Dont understand your point about truce being send vs end hostilities.

    2. @ Srividya: MB has stated that in the Print Edition, in the 23 D clue, it has been printed as SEND in the place of END.

    3. That typo was in Hyderbad edition. No idea about other places.

  6. Wasn't it supposed to be on by 11 am? How many solvers must have chewed off their nails in the hands and perhaps toe- nails too ?

  8. Thanks, Col the peripatetic !! Now here in the North, then in CBE and now in Cal !! Good that you saved a few of my toe nails !! I don't bite nails though but man-i-cure them with a nail file !!

Shouldn't the Organizers announce what you did for them? Or are they organ-raisers ?

  9. All the best to IXL participants

  10. Can we know who, if not all, are participating in the contest?

All the best to every one who participates

  11. Waiting for the IXL to come up, but am feeling bad that I'm going to be travelling and/or working for the next three Sundays, which means I can't be a serious competitor this time around! :(

I'm looking forward to enjoying the online competition in any case. All the best to all participants!

  12. Yeah wishing all the best to all participants... me too may miss out on some but hope to still have fun and do well ;)

  14. A quicky. I thought they wanted to make it harder

  15. I wish they would have announced the launch time clearly on the site itself. To expect people to keep checking back - and to keep looking at other sources like this blog - seems unfair, and is easily addressed.

    1. The 1 pm inauguration was on the site, but the cw could have been there any time after that

    2. That's my point - in a contest where time of submission is a key criterion, the start time of the contest itself needs to be specified clearly.

    3. Right Abhay. The same thing happened last year too on the opening day

    4. First time I'm participating. Though simple, a couple of clues aren't good

      Delete
    5. It is best to keep the inaugural on a Saturday to suit the VVIP's convenience and after the launch ceremony is seen through with all the fanfare and fun fair, start the online promptly at the appointed and well-publicised time the next day - that is Sunday.

      Delete
    6. The VVIP launched the first CW today at 2 PM as announced

      Delete
    7. As announced...where? The website said the launch was at 1pm. If the time was officially changed to 2pm, it wasn't announced on the website as far as I can make out. Given that it's an online competition, announcing any change locally at the venue of the inauguration is hardly any use.

    8. My Comment at 6:33 was not related to this year's event.

I was gently pointing out that the live event and the launch of online must be kept separate.

The live event's time, though announced earlier. may be subject to delays or sudden changes. That should be confined to the venue and local announcements that may benefit the participants or attendees.

The world-wide online launch must be right on dot of the time announced widely prior to the event and for which hundreds of people would be waiting eagerly and with anticipation.

  16. I could log in only at 1440 hrs since I had guests for lunch. Then BSNL played hookey with the broadband. Used a dongle with Reliance ( the old reliable?) and completed the grid in between conversation( unsocial?) . Got stuck with one five letter decoy clue but then , the penny dropped !! Sent it in. I'm no serious contender but have lots of fanxiety (fun and anxiety) to participate.

Would love to know of others and how they found the crossie. They have stepped up the ante slightly and if this is any indicator, we can look forward to much more intriguing and interesting grids.

  17. Thanks to colonel was able to log in and access at two... while seemingly easy i did get stuck with three clues where the crossings were vowels and cd hv been any no ofanswers :) took me longer hence than it should have but it was still a fun start
