Dr RKE's Tale Piece
Maria Screwallah had inherited her skin colour, white as LILIES, from her mother. Her mother was from the EMERALD ISLE and her father a Parsi. With long LIMBS and a sylph like figure, Maria was very different from the buxom heroines of Bollywood. Her looks and colour (to say nothing of acting ability) had earned her the sobriquet of "Greta Garbo of Bollywood". Her first director had Indianised her name as Gauri, which means "fair of complexion". That first film was a box-office hit and she ASCENDed to stardom with just that movie.
Her make-up team had to spend 2 hours in EBONISING her skin for the role of "Kaala Raani" to be shot in a REGAL PALACE in Udaipur. The scene required Gauri to stride out of the palace steps with a CUDGEL in one hand and a SABRE in the other. The director was LIVID when he found that the CRANE shot could not be done as planned due to a last minute glitch. An assistant director suggested that the camera could pan on her from the terrace of the opposite building instead of from the crane. The filming crew SKEDADDLEd to the new site and set up equipment. The director, who leaned over the parapet in the excitement of the shooting, lost his balance and fell to the ground. He was unable to move, as he had a broken THIGHBONE and was gasping for breath. Gauri (who had given up her training as a nurse midway as she was into cinema) rushed over and gave him the kiss of life (mouth-to-mouth VENTILATion). The director survived to make it to the hospital and recovered after surgery. That kiss had cemented the bond between the director and the actress, and they were soon honeymooning in the Pacific COASTLINE of the OAHU island of Hawaii. Adam GRANT, the WORSHIPFUL mayor of Honolulu, presented Gauri with a lei of NARCISSUS flowers. That picture made it to the cover of Filmfare magazine.

Thank you incognito. I solved the puzzle before 8.30 AM
ReplyDeleteSathya - 15 ac - Granting - anno - grant - actor - gin cocktail - permitting is granting
ReplyDelete15 ac. Granting ...Hugh GRANT...actor
ReplyDeleteING...GIN cocktail
Means ..permitting
......also the famous CARY GRANT.
Delete15. Granting. Actor ( Grant ) for Cary Grant & gin anagram
ReplyDelete26 Neil’s bank? (9) COASTLINE {LINE}* [RA]. What is [RA]??
ReplyDeleteReverse Anagram. See the panel on the left for explanation of Annotations
Delete15 a granting actor is hue grant grant plus gin
ReplyDelete8d is a love ly clue
ReplyDeleteFor Bibek his bunk bed was his PALACE and unmindful of the BED BUGs he kept looking at the pictures of GRETA GARBO and her ilk and other assorted EROTICA. His right eye seemed to be developing a STYE. Little did he know that soon there would be none to take up CUDJELS in his favour.
ReplyDeleteAbimbola owing to the brawl with Bibek the previous night had a scratch in one of his LIMBs and his THIGH BONE seemed to be cracked. He had trouble in ASCENDING the stairs.
Meanwhile the COASTLINE of Salalah became visible to the naked eye.
What happened next?
Eagerly waiting to know what happened next, CG
Delete+1. Probably depends on tomorrow's CW!
Deletepermit = Grant having Gin* =Grant(Gin)*= granting
ReplyDeleteThank you Incognito. Really liked today's fast fill, but missed out on the RA. Coast was an oblique anind for me to pick up.
ReplyDeleteFemur is my COD. Took comparatively longer to solve this.
Normally actresses say (it is said) that they wanted to be doctors before coming to acting. For a change Dr RKE's heroine came to acting leaving nursing. She must have nursed the idea for long. Good tale.

ReplyDeleteGreat Sketch!
DeleteGreat pencil sketch. I did not know CG could wield the pencil as well as he does the penšš
Delete+1. remembered old times- more sketches by CGB.
Delete@Dr.RKE:He used to post a sketch along with his tale piece not long ago.
DeleteToday Incognito had delivered more anagrams. small clarification about 18D. i.e The Latin word erica means "heath" which is carrying old Book. (OT). that means erica over "OD" will gives erica OD* = erotica. My debate is how come the word "OT" placed between ER (ot)ica.
ReplyDeleteWhere does your 'old'come from?
DeleteThere is book only denoting OT(old testament),Sir
Doc.sir, I typed via mobile. not noticed the letter"D". to be read it as OT. I am not coming to annotation part. how to perceive that the word OT will lies between ERxxCA.
DeleteI think 'carries'the indicator
DeleteYes. carries is the indicator.
Delete8 down. Does she need to go to that extent, using a bed bug? I like the subtle humour here. Other wives have gone to the extreme by using a knife to Bobbit ! Yet others have harmlessly closed ranks !
ReplyDeleteKishore. What do you think ?
Did you get the point about electronic bed bug?
DeleteHi can someone help in parsing coastline for me. I understand neil gives line and coast means to move effortlessly, so is that how its worked out or I am missing something more obvious?
ReplyDeletethanks
Coast is the anagram indicator.
DeleteThe word means freewheel or drift. the latter means that the letters can go anywhere.
Like many anagram indicators it takes a bit of imagination
This is similar to 1A where VETO becomes CASTING VOTE.
DeletePlease explain 8D. Wife gives W and husband H. Where did BED come from?
ReplyDeleteIt is a Cryptic Definition meaning - A bug (electronic device) placed in the bed by a suspicious wife to monitor a philandering husband. Further a pest is a Bed Bug that is why it's classified as a [C&DD]
