ReplyDelete1D {ANDROIDS+STRANGE = A STANDING ORDERS} [CA]
16D [T<=]
14A. I think {Sm...y} should not be there?
DeleteYou are right
DeleteThanks for the annotations. Colonel. These are correct. Also, thanks to Ramesh for blogging today - meticulous as ever.
Delete5d Anno! Is a reversal maissing!
ReplyDeleteReversal?
DeleteMaybe Hypatia meant Anagram of SOB<< I,TOREUS or SO(I)B TOREUS. Touch of indirection there maybe ?
DeleteI thought it is BO[ISTEROU*]S< and about being on double duty
DeleteI think 'Sadly' i the anagrind for both "Sob about one" & "Tore us". Then,
DeleteSO(I)B becomes Bois
(Tore us)* becomes 'Terous'.
The clue seems to have been revised - The original clue was "Loud sob about one taken tore us sadly (10)".
DeleteA very nice puzzle, Hypatia. Favourites are, 14ac, 22ac, 4dn and 13dn.
ReplyDeleteThank you for an engaging morning.
Great going AJ. Thanks for sharing your favourite clues as well:)

DeleteHurray! First time i'm completing a Hypatia CW and that too wel in time. Added joy is that I solved Spooner also. Thank you Hypatia.
ReplyDeleteYay:) Good to know Paddy.
DeleteI have a doubt about 4D. Bright is supposed to lead us to 'Shone'. Is it the correct synonym? Shone is a verb and bright is an adjective.'Was bright' would be better?
ReplyDeleteYes - that is what I had in the clue. It seems to have been revised.
Delete5d Why not
ReplyDelete[SO(I)B + TORE US]*
4D and 5D as published, appear to have been changed. The original clues read
Delete4D Part fashionably black, was bright outside (4,4) and
5D Loud sob about one taken tore us sadly (10)
I have sent an email request to the crossword desk to revert to the original clues for these in the online version.
4D Your original clue was correct. Use of 'Shone' for 'bright' is wrong. It should be 'was bright' or 'looked bright'
DeleteNice wp for Chennai 🙂
ReplyDeleteThanks LV:) Nice to see you in the blog.
DeleteSlovenly is careless, not carelessly?
ReplyDeleteSlovenly can also be used as an Adverb. Please refer Collins - The third usage listed. It is also listed as a synonym in Thesaurus.net
DeleteI think slovenly is only careless/lazy. say,he is a slovenly boy. He is slovenly in appearance.
ReplyDeleteHypatia - i too completed 100% - 2nd day in a row. Thanx.
ReplyDeleteMy CODS - 11ac, 13dn, 16dn
I also fell slovenly is careless
The work was completed in a slovenly manner.
But it was a great CW. Thanx. 😊
