    1. Anno?
Solution without anno is likely to be deleted. Of course crossings help, but you must explain how you got it.

  8. A SOUND and light show this time!
WORD spread around and enthusiasts sat before their computers.
The best of the best are not exactly WORKHORSES but are TEMPERED.
They CALCULATE anagram counts with lightning speed.
Have ABSTRACT thinking capacity and they don't BRAG!!
The ALLURING person yet again becomes the champion. His wins seem to be ETERNAL.
He thus sets a BENCHMARK difficult to EMULATE.

The losers are not losers. They love to lose but not before a friendly attempt to topple him!!

    Congratulations RAMKI KRISHNAN.

    1. You are right. All that one should know is that an imaginary number has a written representation in Mathematics.

  10. Sathia, you don' t have to bring in a complex number at all. The square roots of negative numbers(which do not exist as per the basic concept of square roots) is an imaginary number. Straightaway, an imaginary number has a written expression, no need for homophone etc. 5i is an imaginary number considered to be the square root of - 25.

  17. As I always say, look up a word in a dictionary before you ask a question like this.
If the clue has 'castle' and the Col's annotation KEEP, all that you have to do is look up KEEP.
    The dictionary will have 'castle'.
Spare a few minutes and look it up in a paper dictionary.
As you flip the pages for KEEP, some other word will catch your eye and you will learn a new word.
