  1. 23 A Carnivora (Biological order) - Vehicle (CAR) , ordered with avorin - favoring with no banks. Order seems to be doing double duty

  2. Will they in TN wear a PASTEL blue or green shirt?
No way! Only white (pure white).
The leader would have SHORT LISTED the team taking into account the HALE and healthy elders. PERCHANCE a few youngsters will get the coveted post.
Some with CLOSENESS to the top brass may be looking forward eagerly. It will SOON be known.
With a change in party there will be a complete SHAKE UP.
Many will change their PREMISES, maybe choosing the EASTERN part in the row of houses!
    May good things happen!

    2. Dear Mr. Bhargav,
In the context of your penultimate line 'Many will change their PREMISES, maybe choosing the EASTERN part in the row of houses!', it is a fact since the current dispensation at the centre is hell bent on executing that pet or dream project of revamping Central Vista, here in national capital. And incidentally, the site of this is in the eastern direction vis-a-vis the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the existing Parliament House...

  4. Brilliant puzzle. While I could parse most of the answers, I needed the blog for mattress and petard. I liked shortlist the most.

  5. 26a solvent and solution, synonymous?

    1. Yes. Thesaurus.com under 'solution' gives solvent as a synonym but not the other way. The entry under solvent is as applicable to financial solvency.

  6. Please don't brand me as a 'crybaby' or a consistent failure. The 27A clue - Excavated thief's den (in 7 letters) literally teased me to no ends since I reckoned it as DUNGEON, wondering how to link a thief with UGEO!!!
Anyway, learnt the solution after accessing this worthy blog slot.

    1. No worries Suresh. I have done it many times. Some word gets stuck in your head as the answer and you have to do calisthenics to anno it. Funnily enough, the same things happens to me during setting - I get stuck on some storyline for the surface and cant let go, even though the cryptic/written grammar doesnt work out.

  7. It happens to everyone. In fact I did not get it. I never could connect excavated and concave, though the excavated surface is concave in shape. One must be lucky to get such a connection.

  8. Same here. I also could not connect excavated with concave & hence did not get perchance either.
