ReplyDelete7d indirect? (Initial turmoil/confusion would have been OK)
23d kill is ICE! Though ice is clued diff but still, the break up could have been better
I thought ice - is in case of emergency.
Delete+ man - ice man?
Obviously, that is the parsing. But since ice itself may mean killer,Prasad feels it could have been clued differently.

Delete14D YOKEL ; country cousin; YOKE L
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Are Sunday special setters not SKILLED to merit RISE with a talepiece?
ReplyDeleteAt least a small one if not a SAGA. The special contributors are like YOKEL. For TOGETHER with the regular daily expert setters their LATTICEs entertain too. These grids may not reach ALPINE heights of regulars or profound like a speech of POLONIUS. But surely they help pass what would be an INSIPID morning. Like a dash of EGGNOG on Sunday at NOON.
Probably on Sundays with none to OPERATE, taking time to meet RELATIONs or exercising with the DUMBBELL regular writer is busy elsewhere. Here this an attempt to fill this CAVITY least these setters think of us as TRAITORS! INNOCENT we are and FAIR to all.
(This piece is IRREAL fun and hopefully does not invite GLARE of the admin.)
Thanks Guns for a LOVELY grid. ADIEU!
Lovely!
DeleteGreat. !!!! GREAT GUNS!!
DeleteThank you, Ramesh!
DeleteNice Talepiece,Ramsh!
DeleteThoroughly enjoyed solving this nice Sunday special. thanks Cdr Ganapathiji and Colonel for publishing.
ReplyDeleteNice CW Guns. Enjoyed solving. Thank you for reminding me of James Shirley’s poem. Can’t elaborate further as the clue is yet to be solved. But the clue has entered my list of favourites along with a few others. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou have a list?! That's interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhy this question Paddy?
DeleteYou had said the nice clue had entered your list of favourites. I thought if you do have such a list it should be interesting. I read, solve and forget. Maybe,if some connection comes up I may recall.
DeleteNot a long list. But I like 21down for the way it has been clued. 28 a and 24ac for the literary connection. Particularly 28a for referring to a line in the poem to get the solution. You think I am funny?
DeleteWhy funny. On the other hand it's an interesting pastime. To see some of mine in the list, I feel nice, AJ! thank you!
DeleteWhy funny? I find it interesting.
DeleteI am a little weak in literature since I have not studied much in my academics. What little I know,is what I have learned out of interest. Thanks to your mention,I googled and read the poem, a part of which I had quoted above. I take every opportunity to read up. CV used to provide many such instances. I miss him.
A commanding CW!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the CW along with Ramesh special.
