  1. Solving this cw, I feel OUT OF THIS WORLD!

I remember earlier times of dashed HOPES & DIMINISHed confidence. I would SCRAPE BY in a PHASIC manner! Net result 25% solved! An IDENTITY crisis overtook me. I wished to DROP out of the SCENE completely.

Endlessly ASPIRING for a full solve & EAGER for an EDUCATION to the same. UMPTEEN attempts later, I had concluded this is not my BREAD AND BUTTER!

Lo behold! I CONNECTED with this blog. And no less than Dr X, himself, encouraging me, painting a PORTRAYAL of acing the grid & not in the distant future at that!

Now with a JAUNTY pen, I feel I have TIED THE KNOT finally, not just with any grid but Dr Nabars special one.

To be celebrated with SCAMPI, HAGGIS & IRISH STEW in HAITI. Alas! I am a tee totaller. Else I would have been SODDEN at some SHEBEEN in ACCRA!

    Thank u Doc! For everything!!

  20. 24d. Khadi. Means Indian fabric. Had for held in Ki for Kiribati
20d. Conchie. Means conscientious objector. Vishnu's conch followed by ie for that is.
25d. Thumb. Means body part. Hub for core includes first of man and all follow T for model

  21. @ AJ/ Ramki why indirect anagram?
It is anagram of kitten + r.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I hadn't used the word kitten straight away. I had given young cats. The rule for anagrams is all the letters should appear in the clue. When the clue is simple I tend to commit this mistake. Ramki was right.

      Delete
    2. In an anagram clue the anagram fodder (i.e. the letters that have to be anagrammed) should be present as-is (of course, standard abbreviations, letter-pickings etc. are allowed).
In this clue, the clue has "young cat" from which KITTEN has to be derived and then anagrammed. That makes it a two-step process for the solver, and hence it is an indirect anagram. Hope this clarifies.
