  5. Yesterday's words

    When I visited the Pyramids, Mr.Amara from ETHIOPIA, was my assigned guide. Clad in BOXERS & a straw hat, his accent was at odds with his RAIMENTS. He INTONATED each word carefully, so I could understand.

    Sitting at the LAWNs of the hotel, after a relaxed dinner of EXTRA spicy MACKEREL fried in SALAD OIL, over CIGARS, he joked, he had seen India, only, ON AIR & snow only when he DEFROSTED his fridge.

    I held forth about our flora & fauna extending from PUNJAB to CAPE Comorin. I also talked about our ISLES & their unique culture.

    When I asked him about GNUS, he said they were not native to his country. But dogs were. Back home he had been a dog breeder.

    His background was like a storybook. An abandoned WAIF, he had IMPROVED in health & blossomed under the EXTRA care of his foster mother, a LACROSSE player. Growing up at a FRENETIC pace, his first employment was at a CORRAL, where a GREAT DANE had helped him to gather the cattle.

    Such was their friendship, that he went on to love dogs & soon had a MASTIFF & TERRIER added to his collection. Later as a breeder, he concentrated only on LABRADORS & GOLDEN RETRIEVERS as rich people preferred to keep them as pets.

    By the end of the week, I invited him to India & offered to host him & show him around. This was his reply.

    Say what you may,
    Every dog has its day;
    As I waited in line to collect my meager pay,
    Who would have thought, one day, I am going to lay;

    My eyes on the mighty Indian land,
    Far away from this scorching dust and sand,
    You, my friend, made it possible with a magic wand;
    So saying - he clasped and shook my hand!
