    Many thanks to all solvers and to the Col. for the blog, as always. Here are my notes for this crossword.

    Notes

    This crossword's theme is "financial transactions," mostly of the questionable kind.

    The preamble, "Covertly convert (13)" alludes to the theme, once you substitute "MONEY" (the solution to 13A) for "13."

    Running across the fifth row from the bottom is a nina that reads "LAUNDER." In the second row from the top, straddling the end of 9A and the beginning of 10A, there is another thematic nina that reads "HAWALA."

    In addition, with some latitude in some cases, the following entries can be construed to be thematic:

    13A. MONEY.
    16A. FOREIGN EXCHANGE.
    6D. PAWN.
    15D. BEHIND BARS.
    23D. ARREST.

    This puzzle is a pangram.

    Personal notes

    The first batch of cherries from our baby cherry tree ripened, finally. There were only about a hundred or so cherries, but they were spectacularly delicious! Looking forward to next year's batch already.

    Remembered cherry picking (Literally) times while in U.S.
    For those who have not experienced it- Some farms fi a day when you can to there and pick for yourself any quantity of cherries. They weigh it and collect the money at exit. Wonderfu experience.

      They only show it in the online edition, unfortunately. For my CWs, it's usually just an additional hint, you don't necessarily need it to see the theme/nina(s).

    16A FOREIGN EXCHANGE was an easy entry-point into the puzzle and fit in with the theme nicely.

    8D SHAMPOO was the best worded clue, with a clever feint in the surface reading hinting at Red Bull ("A cow's output is in this bubbly energy drink").

    "Garfield" for SOBERS in 28A and "covering the full range" for AZ in 2D were fine touches.

    "Cask" for C as K in 25D left me scratching my head until I saw this blog.

    4D CHASER ("Search desperately for a drink (6)") gave me a laugh as I had been stuck on the anagram thinking the definition was a specific drink. Perhaps it indicates I need more experience with SHOTs.

    NIN (from 18D NINETEEN), YNAMBU (21D) and PAPETI (7D) required googling for confirmation after parsing the anno and filling in.

    Perhaps I am mistaken, but it would seem that an extra 'T' has entered into 24A (-v)OMITTER. I was able to find "VOMITER" in the dictionary.

    "Around about" in 11A and "Barbed wired" in 15D, while technically correct for the parsing of the clues, introduced grammatical redundancies into the surface reading. Perhaps those clues could be workshopped.
