  1. MONDAY TO FRIDAY Vladimir followed the HINDMOST female in a group not knowing
that she was a PARAGON of virtue.

ARITHMETICIANS would have lost count of the number of such days!

Finally the following became a HEADACHE and he had to RESIGN after taking
    an APERITIF and an ANALGESIC!!

  4. 14a As per annotation I thought, new - n and so news - nn. But Ref list gives News - n

  5. You are right. Maybe just a typo.

  6. 14a can also be interpreted as (NI)* (NN) Y.. breaking being the anagram indicator

    1. Anagrams for two letter words? Reversals make a better reading

    2. Yeahh. I understand that. Here it is used in the context of "In" goes into N and N. But just technically speaking, breaking can be interpreted as an anagram indicator and the parsing would still be fine (though 2 letter anagrams don't really make sense)

  7. 24d BREAM - fish
    {r} in {beam}
    May be "I" - beam (for I-beam)

  8. 14A NINNY and 18A APERITIF had interesting annotations that took some thought to reveal themselves after the word was filled. 10A SOLDIER ON and 13A AILERON were two rhyming solutions that were close to one another. ABEL featuring as "a murder victim" in 15A was brilliant. The word MATABELE was also an interesting choice to research. 5D and 9D were easy-to-spot and easy-to-solve anagrams that helped to open up the grid.

The definition for 4A AMNESIAC ought to be "one who forgets". The anagrind "substitutes" for that clue was strange as there is no substitution operation happening. 12A "Decentralize" banks for DE was cunning, though a Ximenean might argue that for fairness it ought to be "banks of decentralize" (a similar argument could be made for the selection indicator "both sides" in 20A). The CA in 23A was technically well-specified but made for a head-scratcher.

What is the telescopic indicator in 26A - is it "fire"? That would be rather unconventional. Regardless, for the sake of good grammar the definition of this clue ought to be "it burns inside here" (note the S). 26A was a better clue than 29A which seemed to lack any telescopic indicator whatsoever (unless "inside" doubles as both indicator and fodder).

Similar to 7D in yesterday's edition, today's 27A had anagram fodder on both sides of the anagrind. Perhaps such clumsy arrangements are better left to CAs (which are reprehensible in their own right). Having got the crossings A-A---S--, and taking "checking account" was a charade to end the solution with CA, and noting the clue definition, my mind immediately went to the medicinal concoction AYAHUASCA. However, I was unable to account for the remainder of wordplay.

Hoping to see Incognito as the setter tomorrow, but a KrissKross puzzle would be just as welcome before the inevitable Crescent skullduggery.

    1. 26A 'inside' is the telescopic indicator.
29A splitting inside into 'in' and 'side' makes 'in' the telescopic indicator.

    2. Re: 29A I can accept "in" as T indicator after splitting "inside" into "in" and "side".

Re: 26A Fire burning, let it burn inside here (5)
That would mean the syntax of the clue is [partial definition][wordplay][partial definition][telescopic indicator][partial definition]! Not only that, but the definition (when the various pieces are concatenated) appears to be "fire it burn here". Perhaps Arden wishes to remind us of the era of cavemen with such imagery and sentence-construction.

    3. 27a you are way off. AC is not anagram fodder
26 a Pin it on your board. You will get it soemday.

    4. Re: 27A, having read your comment and Col's annotation closely, I think I get it now. "Checking" is the containment indicator and "account" provides AC, to go into the anagram of "a single".

Re: 26A not a bad idea. Maybe something to stare at when having a 17D with no 27A available.
