Immensely enjoyed today's puzzle from Arden.
ReplyDeleteSurface readings are very good and wordplays match them too.
brevity:
ReplyDeleteSuperb!
I too would like to commend this setter for smooth surface reading of most - if not all - of his clues.
ReplyDeleteI think this superb result is because he takes a word, splits it into components and writes a clue aiming to achieve elegant overall reading. He does not bother about adhering to any rule such as X or L (this doesn't mean his clues do not adhere to any unwritten rules); nor does he bother about having extra words.
I had a chance of meeting Arden in the S&B meeting. A gentleman to the core, a simple and unassuming person, one who speaks very softly. I am not surprised that his photo does not appear in the Q and A blog in Shuchi's blog.
Col.'s cartoon is matching the CW in excellence !

27 a. The definition of lagging is 'asbestos'? Kindly explain.
ReplyDeleteAs illustrated by the illustrious Colonel, lagging means insulation and asbestos (in the illustration asbestos rope) is used as lagging.
