@Kishore: Trust you to see patterns that will even take the setter by surprise :) Very interesting observation.
DeleteThanks for the comp. This as you will probably agree comes from a lifetime of keeping an eye out for figures... ;-) Both eyes most times, otherwise I'd squint!
Delete26 - An hotline set out promptly (2,3,4) - ON THE NAIL*
ReplyDeleteI used to think it was 'a hotline' just like 'a hotel' and it was only for 'hour' that we say 'an hour' as 'h' is silent so the first vowel sound 'o' takes precedence.
I stand corrected by Arden today.
The sound of Hotline starts with a 'h', so the article to be used is 'a'.
DeleteAgree with Shyam.
Delete'owever, if you a Frenchman and do not 'aspirate, as in 'Allo 'Allo, , you are permitted to say an 'ouse or an 'otline ;-) Vive le escargots !
Here is an illuminating article on the subject a vs an:

On the subject of food items (currant, eclair, taco) yesterday, it may be of interest to know that 'Ice Cream Sandwich' is the latest version of the Android platform (Operating System - Android 4.0) for phones, tablets, and more.
ReplyDeleteEach Android version has been developed under a codename based on a dessert or sweet treat. The older versions have been given names in alphabetical order such as Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo (frozen yogurt), Gingerbread, and Honeycomb. (Astro and Bender were the pre-release versions, but these names were dropped from use for trademark reasons.)
May be a good theme for Neyartha!
Food lovers all. Like Rabri Devi three of whose sisters are Jalebi, Rasgulla and Paanwa
DeleteI have had fried ice cream and ice cream sizzlers. Wonder how an ice cream sandwich will be. Maybe my friend Icecreamwala of SBI will know.
ReplyDeletewhy would king have "patent leather" for shiny exterior? how did you derive that? pls can u explain?thanks

Kishore, to add to your pairs, 28 has 'short' both in the clue and the answer.
ReplyDeleteMaking it a poor clue
DeleteChecking in after a long time. Nice one today, the 'short'coming in 28 notwithstanding
ReplyDeleteSuresh,
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a SBI (badam)halwa wala here in Chennai, nee Madras!
Some Parsis get their names from the products they deal in, but one of the few who gave a name to their output was the late Air Marshal Edul Dhatighara whose Bhujia was the stuff of legends...
