Last time Anitya was around Navneeth had mentioned:
ReplyDeleteLook at all that white-space in the clue area...
Someone seems to have taken note and maybe that’s why the font is bigger in today’s print version.
22 - Big party's karma, did you say? (4) - FATE {FAT}{E} What party is 'E'?
The correct answer seems to be FETE ~fate
Navneeth's observation was that Anitya used very few words to write clues and hence white space was large. This seems to have been attended to by increasing the font size.
DeleteRighto
DeleteNot only the increase in font size; note extra blank lines in column 2 of the matter!
Delete3 - “Perfectionist” label over learner (8) - STICKLER {STICK{L}ER}
ReplyDeleteReminded me of Phillip Pirrip's 'tickler'.
Eight exclamatory marks (19A, 23A, 24A, 13D) and almost all of them are unnecessary.(!)
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation. Agree with you
DeleteShort and sweet from Anitya.
ReplyDeleteTotally enjoyable. Many good clues. Apart from increasing font size, couple of long clues also.
ReplyDeleteGood. Enjoyed solving
ReplyDeleteI think it isn't just the font size: it looks like the grid was also scaled up a bit in proportion. Either that, or I'm imagining things.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, clear and easy clues with fairly smooth surfaces. 23A isn't the kind of DD I like, because the meanings are too close for the clue to be interesting, but then Anitya isn't the only setter who I've seen come up with one.
7A would have been served better with a "Not" instead of a "No", no?
Agree about 23A. The word "dud" is a recent coinage for such clues - two definitions, both from the same source.
DeleteI prefer 7A with "No", I think it works better for the surface.
Redudant!
DeleteIs there a Java version of the crossword to solve it online?

Not on your Desktop in an easy way, unfortunately. However, I believe there is an iOS app. for this; other members should no how to get it.
DeleteI use this excellent Android application on my phone
DeleteApparently they also have one in the App Store here for your iPhone/iPad
