ReplyDeleteNice utilitarian one from Gridman.
I fell for Gridman's sleight of hand and put in TUBA for 27a and struggled with the GADGET...
I too filled in tuba- one of a few I missed (not the only one!)
ReplyDeleteLoved the chopsticks, though I cannot understand how they cut the insects with them! Probably it is swallowed as a whole !
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the insects eaten by Chinese!
DeleteLeft out Fish kettle, since I did not think that Gridman would make an enumeration error. Maybe Gridman will pull one out of his various lexicons.
ReplyDelete30 - 12 o'clock might bring G (8) - MIDNIGHT {MID}{NIGHT}
ReplyDeleteI had this as {M(IDN}IGHT} IDN meaning '(Christianity / Ecclesiastical Terms) in Dei nomine Also IND
[Latin: in the name of God]'
G in the mid of night

ReplyDeleteTo balance things a bit: I really like 20A; my COD. Oh, and the U's didn't bother me much. The clues were not abstruse and most of the answers referred to familiar household items.
ReplyDeleteSome of the criticism expressed above, especially without justification, seem too harsh and OTT, IMO.
+1. Agree with all of that - especially the negative feedback
