  1. With reference to Afterdark's late night post:

Incidentally 'Wedding Anniversary' anagrams to 'Very awarded innings' ;)

Kishore, you are now supposed to live up to Bhavan's title :))

I started off in a ward, have put my wife in the maternity ward twice and will probably end up in a ward (mental or otherwise): So it is actually quite a-warded innings

ASSONANCE formed by the middle letters of the first 3 words

  3. In my view something is SERIOUSly wrong in 6D

  4. or could 6D be {SER}{I}{OUS} from hearts of the first three words of the clue

    1. That is how I took it. 'At heart' - double duty.

    2. It is an unfair clue IMO.

    3. +1 due to the different sizes of the heart

    7. Heart(s)? since it is hearts of more than one word!

      Delete
    8. Since there are 3 hearts, we must be talking of an octopus.

    9. Guys, thanks for taking the memories back to the mid-1970s. That lilting song My heart is beating, keeps on repeating from the movie Julie had been penned by Harindranath Chattopadhyaya and the music was scored by Rajesh Roshan. Great performances in the movie from 'Chattakkari' or 'Julie' Lakshmi, Om Prakash, Nadira, Rita Bhaduri and others.

Honestly, I had liked the original Malayalam version Chattakkari much more than the Hindi remake, esp., in terms of histrionics.

  8. For every good clue like SNAP, TEA SET, CEDE there were others that put me off. Listing a few gripes:

11A: How does the connection from Alaska to Ice work?
16A: Never heard the phrase "consume a planet". I understand why it is there for the surface, but in cryptic reading is it an accurate/tight enough definition?
19A: While I see the appeal of the clue, is it complete? Shaven is an adjective so how can the whole sentence be taken as definition?
3D: Either the definition or the anagram indicator is missing.
13D: Deriving Borat from Kazakh journalist was a stretch (for me)
22D: A Shiekh/Shiek is an Arab chief/ Muslim leader. So is Rabat's rich man and accurate description?

    1. 27A : PSI by itself doesn't mean paranormal phenomena

      Delete
    2. I had several reservations like you and had to work back to justify by reasoning:

11a You can be trapped in Alaska by being icebound or be icebound and heading for Alaska
16a When you are ravenous, you can consume anything.
      19a Agree
3d Took it as double duty
13d Perfectly agree. Had to work it backwards
22d Sheik can be stretched to mean a rich man, probably, but restricting it to Rabat was a bit odd.
27a I was wondering how to fit esp in, and then I realised what Skulldugger was up to.

      Delete
    3. The above explanations were rationalisations and do not mean that I found the clues fair or proper

      Delete
  9. 27A-
Is it ESP or ISP for paranormal...?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Please see link. PSI is a show : Paranormal Scene Investigators.

But that does not mean the clue is fine.

  10. Also, 24 AC lacks indicator for the embedded fodder.

    ReplyDelete
  11. IMHO:
11 A: Would North/ South pole work here?
16 A: I think this clue is alright. When one's Ravenous one could consume a planet too?
3 D: What could be wrong when the clue is taken as a whole.
    22 D: Should be acceptable, I think. Shiekh's a rich man also.
