+1 for the ragline ... Is 12A fair enough, without any other indication ? Somehow I was thinking about table from Clark's tables, with crossings also justifying that thought.
ReplyDeleteplease read 'ragline' as 'tagline' :)
DeleteYou may be ragged for this!
ReplyDelete'Walk in the park' or not, it is my second consecutive samosa day and I am on a 'samosa trick'!
ReplyDeleteThough easy, I still find it very interesting. Had to wait extra half hour to announce my completion.
A small niggle about 3D-
ReplyDeleteIs 'Belle' the exact equivalent of 'Debutante'. Debutante,IMO, refers to first appearance.
Debutant = A person making a debut.
DeleteDebutante = A young upper-class woman making her debut. ( A female debutant)
Reference : OED. Now you can make your own judgement pl. :)
Second consecutive samosas for me too!
ReplyDeleteA walk in the park at a leisurely pace! A wonderful puzzle!! Thank you, Anithya. :-)))
ReplyDeleteMy COD is 13Dn (BEAUTY SPOT)* for its beautiful word play.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I could instantly connect Clark with Gable....
ReplyDeleteCrossings helped me in getting Gable.
DeleteSomething not quite right with the construction of 17A.
ReplyDelete17 Mother instead has hot title of newspaper (8) MASTHEAD {MA}{ST{H}EAD} If MA was in STEAD, no problem. But if INSTEAD has hot, what happens to IN?
Suresh... I looked at it this way.. In stead, has hot : inside stead, place hot (h)
Delete'Stead' has got H in. That is how Col. has parsed it and that is how I got it as well. The 'in' may not be quite in prose order- which is to benefit surface reading.
ReplyDeleteI see your comment got here before mine..
DeleteMaybe.
DeleteIf it had said 'was hot' instead of 'has hot' Aakash's explanation may work.
DeleteIt will completely spoil the surface reading.
DeleteCV, I do not think it will spoil the surface. The surface does not make much sense as it is. In fact, if we used was instead of has it may slightly (and only slightly) improve it.
DeleteMother instead was hot title of newspaper - How do you say that is better?
DeleteMother could be newspaper title. How it could be hot I do not know.
DeleteBetter than Mother having the 'hot' title, which means nothing at all
Nowadays newspapers and magazines periodically bring out extras. Not only English newspapers but language papers do.
Delete'Title' has the meaning of 'book' )as in XXX in one year of its existence has brought out 120 title".
The father, the son and the daughter had straight titles.
Mother instead has hot title
- hot title of newspaper, that is one brought out by a newspaper.
???!!!
DeleteInteresting puzzle.nice clues.brain tickling&teasing.17a- exposed to new(s) item.20d- excited.3d- simply dumbfounded. In fine, a well rounded puzzle.Thank you Anitya

Someone spoke of some show which for him was pucca porno with clothes on.
I haven't seen that particular show, but I can certainly say that some ads on TV and some dances in filmi extravaganzas is nothing but porno.
Am I correct in this assessment or am I too innocent and can't be a proper judge of what is porno and what is not?
PS: If the blog owner feels this topic is out of bounds, he may remove this post.
Could get to complete this online. Couldn't get a couple of days Thanks to that kind soul and the Col. Though nothing like pen on paper, but as of now, I'm a beggar and hence can';'t be a chooser !! the Online job is so user-friendly, with large prints and easy access.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't 24 across be KEEP in STEP? just a doubt?
CV: On Porno, is the word from Poornam ? In the altogether? Nothing out of nothing?
Col: Didn't Clark Gable epitomised the pencil cut moustache?
ReplyDeleteThe cold and frosty weather has abated a bit here in NY but I dare not venture out . It is a project to get fully kitted out, suited -booted, with monkey cap as a balaclava, a -la Russian, and what have you !
Coincidentally, having hot samosa for lunch !!
