  1. Was scheduled to meet Fraser Simpson at 5 PM today in Toronto, unfortunately could not do so as the Hop-on-Hop-Off sightseeing bus turned up 45 minutes late at one of the stops and that coupled with rush hour traffic I could reach the decide RV only at 5:45 PM and Fraser could wait only till 5:40 PM, moreover he did not have a cell phone so I could not contact him.

    1. I think CGB guess is coming close. Sprinkling is a small quantity

    2. Its actually "small thinly distributed amount". Lost is scattered/distributed. Small amount lost: sprinkling. Some: hidden word.

    1. I think the intention is HIS+STORIES. In the merging, S is lost

    2. That was my intention. Actually at a later stage I had written a revised clue but that version has not appeared.

    3. I took col meant that (his stories -> hi(s)tories way but representation of anno to show single S needed change.

  5. 1A - Don't see st for straight in Chambers!

    1. I too!
I see, however, its hp i.e., strait!

    2. In geometry, we may write 'st. line', where st is straight. It does not seem to be abstruse. Never mind it is not in Chambers. Let them have their saint on street with stone.

  6. Liked 24A and 5D.

Question on 6D - some say that in a hidden word clue there should be no redundant word or connector . Any views ?

    1. Yes, there must be no extra fodder. So far I have not known that there must not be any connector. Not sure if I have written such a clue before. But, again yes, in this clue 'for vehicle' appears to be a connector. It didn't strike me as bad. Is there a problem? What do some of you think?

    2. Personally speaking, i don't consider "for" as redundant.
In fact, i have seen many redundant/extra words in telescopic clues

    3. Connector seems OK. Extra fodder and open telecopes(starting or ending in a word) is I think not allowed.

  7. Solvable clues as usual from Gridman. Liked the dúrbervillles clue(23D) most!
