    4. @Prasad: interesting alternative. But a slight grammar problem then, it would need 'popping into' for it to work seamlessly. Setter's intent was a pop = per, as KKR has said

  31. Thanks everybody. As would have been obvious from the end to end entry and related clue, plus the perimeter NINA, I'm calling it a day. Glad the puzzle came on a Friday with a lot of solver involvement.
