Delete+1 on 24AC
ReplyDeleteI thought it was typo in the IA version.
6 for 3,3 cannot be a typo
Deleteit is (3,6) in the print edition as well.
DeleteMy submission copy shows 3,3,3
DeleteThe epaper is also being haphazardly uploaded. The Chennal edition did not have the Sports page earlier in the morning, it has been added now. The Coimbatore edition has only 3 pages showing?
ReplyDeleteI am not getting the physical copy nowadays and am reading the print edition only. None of the editions was up. It happens every month or so
Delete24Ac enu- should it not be (3,3,3)?
ReplyDelete8D- Anagram of 'Seem Nocturnal' with strange sa anagrind. Main post to be corrected
ReplyDeleteThanks Paddy, corrected the post
Delete21D growth = Erica, a type of shrub
ReplyDeleteTo oppose = ot
Er(ot)ica = writings on sex
Well done Sujatha
DeleteThank you. I have learnt a lot from this blog and continue to do so. I owe my gratitude to all the setters abd veteran solvers here.
DeleteGood solve. Though I got the solution,I could not parse it.
ReplyDeleteDitto
Delete16A- can from susceptible?
ReplyDeleteIf you are susceptible to fall, you can trip!
Delete'May trip'is more apt?
ReplyDeleteMay comes after can!!!
DeleteThis is not about the IDIOM - FLASH IN THE PAN.
ReplyDeleteIt is about a flash in the brain of Tenali Ramakrishna who ONCE UPON A TIME was a GENTEEL scholar and poet in the court of Sri Krishnadevaraya.
The king hurt himself and cut his finger and Tenali Rama said that it was for the good.
The king wanted to go hunting into the forest to ENTERTAIN himself and asked Tenali Rama to accompany him. However he was not allowed to go by the Ministers who cited some TECHNICAL reason.Tenali Rama again said that it was for the good.
The king went into the forest and was caught by cannibals. After the POT POURRI the RITES were to begin andthe chief wanted to ASCERTAIN that the king was fit but
when he found the blood stained finger stopped the proceedings and let him off.
Tenali Rama went on to explain to the king that had he accompanied the king he would have lost his life!

Delete14A. Shouldn't the enumeration be 5-2 or 5,2? VDS Prasad
ReplyDeleteNow a days hyphenated words are given without -.
DeleteDictionaries have varied versions of this. CLEANUP, CLEAN UP; CLEAN-UP
DeleteCleanup with or without the hyphen would be a noun. Clean up on the other hand would be a verb
DeleteNot connected to this CW. I learnt the correct pronunciation of DIGESTION after so many years today, it is pronounced as 'DIGESCHEN' and not 'DIGESHEN'
ReplyDeleteSimilarly,
Deletesuggestion.sÉdŹestŹÉn
Americanised?
DeleteIt Appears ST is pronounced as CH whenever TION is preceded by an S
DeleteThey pronounce Mandatory as Manda-tory (as in tories) I could not understand it when I heard it first time.
ReplyDeleteGenerally kind to dumb heads.Today's score was a healthy 11 .Dn clues were easy and it was easier to fill in the blanks.Thomphil
ReplyDeleteCan u kindly explain
ReplyDelete15dn - pour for empty?? (It can be pour in or pour out no?)
5dn- practical is TECHNICAL?? Is that a synonym?
I got both the above but still.
Could not get 24ac - becos kept trying 3,6.
Got all the others.
I took it as POUR from POT = Empty vessel, ergo POT POUR = Vessel empty
DeletePour: to empty (a container) of a liquid or granular solid (from free dic)
DeleteTechnical:having or demonstrating special skill or practical knowledge. (but not given as synonym)
Empty and pour as verbs, mean to cause to flow (out or in)
DeleteTechnical : would be subset of Practical: applied action. Technical is the practical of industrial sciences.
Thanx.
