Col.sir, Nice to see your title (COLONEL) twice in blog.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that it appeared in two different crosswords within a week, although clued differently in each case. It was my HT to the Colonel and this blog.
DeleteI am sure have solved this grid before !
ReplyDeleteI too felt the same. Getting it done under 20min.
DeleteYes,many clues looked familiar.
DeleteWonder why.. Many of the words in the grid have never appeared in any Hindu crossword let alone one by me. The ones that have appeared earlier have been clued differently by the other setters who had used them. Maybe you are talking about familiarity in terms of my style of clueing?
Delete11a Batman is ref as the bat.
ReplyDelete1a int fun fact
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Five_Interchange
Yes - took some liberty - along the lines of Batmobile, Batcave etc..Batman's bed could be Bat sack..
DeleteInteresting info about the High five interchange.
Lovely grid Hypatia! Loved Forget, Grimm, Grandmasters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mona :)
Delete9d unlikely to succeed vs unsuccessful attempt.
ReplyDeleteIs it fair to equate?
Tough one for me, could solve only 60% but enjoyed the clues. 8A is a new word me. Surprised to see reference to THCC, but nicely done. Got the spooner, so happy. Thanks Hypatia !!
ReplyDeleteThanks Badri. Glad you enjoyed it. I think its the first appearance of THCC in a TH crossword.
DeleteYes. Though Colonel has been clued before ot is the firstctime THCC appears in a clue.
DeleteVERY interesting fare today.
ReplyDelete4D was catchy and amusing.
Thanks Sudarshan. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteThink differently about "legend"
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious if we look at the clue. 20 is smooth! Opposite of it.
ReplyDeleteTypo in 4D - it is VULGAR FRACTION (not FRACTIONS) - request Col to correct
ReplyDeleteThanks Ramki. Corrected
DeleteNice grid Hypatia - liked HIGH FIVE, FORGET, SHEKEL, NILGAI a lot. TEKNONYM was a new word for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ramki. Good to know which ones you liked:)
DeleteGemini you answered yesterday also. please let others try
ReplyDeleteLegend...as in leg end...as in toe, perhaps? Thus,
ReplyDelete'legend mostly' becomes {TO e̶}
Gemini seems to have solved the rest, I only attempted the legend of the clue
13A - Definition: Became familiar
{A} {DA{P}TED} {TOe̶}
8D- Very interesting! Tom Kenny is the voice for the cartoon character-SpongeBob's father. The names of the characters in this cartoon strip are Teknonyms!
ReplyDelete+1 super find for an anagram.
DeleteThanks Sridhar. I dont watch the show much though my kid is a big fan. While it is a new word for some, in the Indian context - "Ramu ki ma" for instance would be a Teknonym.
DeleteThanks Sridhar. Don't know much about the show except that my kid is a huge fan. Even our Indian references like "Ramu ki ma" are only Teknonyms - though the word as such may be new to solvers.
DeleteWell done Sreelakshmi - that's.. wait for it..leg-end-ary
ReplyDeleteIndeed. 20 is a reference to 20D
ReplyDeleteBest! A reference not expected - you basically are a legend!
ReplyDeleteNice grid Soms :) HT to Colonel is indeed very nice :) Liked 1A, 5A & 8 D ( new word ) .
ReplyDeleteThanks LV. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteInteresti g to note from the link that vulgar in Latin means common. Sfter all,it is a common fraction!
ReplyDeleteTracing the history of how words evolve in their meaning is a fascinating pastime for people like us.
DeleteAn enjoyable puzzle! I especially liked 8D. Thank you, Hypatia.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amita. Always good to hear from you.
DeleteVery interesting CWP covering most of the clue types, specially CD, RA and &lit. 5A and 19D are my CoD.
ReplyDelete👏👏👏
Thanks Ramesh. I love to experiment with and include as many different clue types as I can. Glad you enjoyed it too.
DeletePlease let me know what is THCC
ReplyDeleteAcronym for The Hindu Crossword Corner
ReplyDelete... this very blog
DeleteLovely grid Hypatia. I too managed to solve in under 20 mins. Cod - TEKNONYM. Wonderful fitting Tom Kenny there.
ReplyDeleteThe grid was fun though not familiar for me.
Thanx
