DeleteHaving latched on a difficult anno, I don't think you can be classified as newbie any more
DeleteThere is an extra "in" in clue 27A in the print version (my oversight!) which is incorrect. Thanks Col for removing it. It has been corrected in the online version too.
ReplyDelete19A some problem i n anno. I think soldiers should be OR
ReplyDeleteYes,its a typo.

ReplyDeleteOn the eve of Guru Purnima let me express my sincere gratitude to setters, solvers who guided me directly or indirectly . My Pranaams to all members in this Blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you col.sir for posting my Drawing.
Why not 1 a this way-
ReplyDelete(C taped an)*
There is nothing to indicate to place C in the middle.
You are right Paddy. Anagram of (C + TAPED AN) is what I had in mind. There is no insertion. Col, request you to please correct the anno.
DeleteI put in 12 d as pact- mistaking packed for collapse.
ReplyDeleteI thought 8D to be NEMA*+TO+D(escrib)E - but the rally prevented me moving!!
Delete16A- only Americ to be in pink leaving out the ladt A.

ReplyDelete+1..Gowri's artistic work of Guru paada [feet] and paaduka [footwear] is very imaginative.

DeleteFantastic artwork to complement a brilliant crossword. Inspired a tale (nay a narration of a real event). Please read
ReplyDeleteThe prelims were close. Lead shifted several times and the placings were getting UNRULIER. The champ however ADROITLY led the qualifiers.
ReplyDeleteThe participants assembled were treated to a sumptuous breakfast with some tasty south indian dishes and CHUTNEY typically Bangalore.
EDGY new participants qualified after being IN hard LABOUR competing with seasoned campaigners for the finals. An unique galaxy of the stars of the cryptic world formed an ORION on stage. The KEYNOTES were read by the compere beginning the final. Onlookers cheered tapping their THIGHS RALLYing the competitors.
This stage is the real competition with EVERYMAN (and woman) on their own. CAN'T refer to dictionaries, get on line help or phone a friend (no HUSH MONEY event like KBC!) One has to be totally in SYNC with the clues read, fast like a TAP DANCEr and COLLATE the solution in the mind. Some would seem like GREEK and latin. A TALL ORDER indeed. A CHIMERA!
Quietly but efficiently the champ emerged winner POLISHing off stiff competition from the very good solvers on stage. Crowned SOVEREIGN fifth time in a row, the champ quietly smiled wiping his SORE EYEs as he received the winner's medal. A photo finish that's worthy of a place in his ALBUM.
It's worth to make the champ REVEAL the reason for such success consistently. Is it some exotic diet such as EFTS or a secret hidden in a CAMISOLE? Whatever! Will the ASTUTE defending champ win again? Surely as the almighty continues his SPRAYS of blessings. Thanks Kriss kross Ramki for a great grid of smart word play that was like A VERSE in motion. Enjoyed solving
Excellent! Thanks Ramesh
