    1. Technically if i cut that cell, the corner falls off the grid (it becomes an island).
      Cryptically if I dont solve 21d and even if i solve the rest of the grid, there are no crossers available into SE corner.

    2. Noted. I am not upto date on the intricacies of grid construction. I normally adopt grids of reputed setters in The Hindu

    3. Oh. Beginners bad luck (like beginners luck).
      You picked up an absolute no-no grid.
      Its human nature to start with NW corner , since to a natural instinct 1 appears starting point.

      If i dont get 13a, there is no lead for me in the NE corner. I have to start as if its a fresh mini crossy.
      Same with SW with 14d.

      For a minute even if i solved 13a/14d, all those fall in middle of the word crossers. With only one crosser,mostly will be an vowel, it wont be much help in solving respective clues.
      Its the same with all connectors.
      6d for NE to SE landing in four letter word!

      So its practically four mini grids.
