  1. Good Morning: Tried Mickey Mouse=Rat, but didnt fit it, so filled up as contrite. Also, not very ok with the heartless part of 28a

  2. Also, Con=study, but teach is a variant I am not aware of

  3. Good morning everyone

11A - This was an interesting one. Goddess Parvati, Lord Siva's wife, is 'the daughter of the mountain' ('Parvati' from 'Parvat' = moountain) and also 'Girija' (born of a mountain). It is a curious coincidence that Annapurna is a mountain in the Himalayan ranges.
Since the last letter was 'a' I was thinking in terms of a name ending with 'durga' which is also another name for Parvati. Good clue.

RUMAAL could not be conjured up because of two a's.

    Liked HOMELAND,CLASSIFY, CATSUIT, BAHAMAS etc

  4. Here's a big surprise.

3 - Way the boat is undecorated (5)

There's "boat" in the clue. A 5 letter word. Answer is not "Prahu."

    Nita, you can't be serious.

  8. 7A Mickey Mouse is a slang for trivial or trite. How con means teach and not study I don't know

  9. Mickey Mouse: INFORMAL DISAPPROVING
describes something such as an organization, machine or course of study that you think is not as good or serious as it should be. (Cambridge dict)

  10. Is contrite a definition for humble? Being contrite is being remorseful, right?

  11. In 26d, is Norway unnecessary? ThErE iN, has teen regularly, without including Norway. But then the sentence would be incomplete and meaningless.

  12. Managed to complete the crossword by making inspired guesses and trying to make sense of it later.

  13. "12 - Roles played by the runner-up (5) - LOSER"

Rude and politically incorrect. Coming in second doesn't make one a "loser."

  14. @Dan: Exactly my thoughts when I saw this clue in the morning.

Co-incidentally, today's Times crossword also has a clue for running-up.

Operation mounted, coming after 21 (7,2)

where the answer to 21 is WINNER.

  15. @Dan & Shuchi: Arithmetically wrong if more than 2 players, politically wrong either way.
