  2. @ Col: Good to see your blog. I had put together something which I have put in yesterdays blog. I draw your kind attention to the monstrosity appearing in yesterday’s posts at today’s time 9.06 am. I only managed to upload it now after reaching office. Even after seeing your blog, I still thought I should go ahead and post it. Hope you smile indulgently.

  3. @ Putting together the vanilla version, I realised the time and committment you must have to diligently prepare the links and things. Hats off to you, Sir.

I wonder whether you should have been so circumspect in providing annotated solution to today's crossword by putting it under Thursday's blogpost.
Once, when he knew he would be away, Deepak had a post with just a few lines as intro but without the answers (posted ahead of the day) and we commenters in multiple posts wrapped up the puzzle.
In international blogs such as 15sqd, TftT or BD, this is what we do: if we know our post will be delayed we put up a placeholder so that commenters may have their say before we are able to fulfil our scheduled task.

  11. Hello everyone

Was away for sometime. I did notice that Deepak had posted a placeholder with today's date to enable visitors to post comments. But once he realized that his departure would be delayed he decided he could complete the puzzle as well and deleted it, replaced by the routine post timed to go on line at 8.30 am IST sharp.

I was about to post a comment there but suddenly observed that it had vanished ! That was sometime around 6 am IST. Many of the visitors may not have noticed it.

  12. When we reach the home page of Deepak's blog, we have only two posts showing at a time.

If any reader wishes to see Kishore's Comment under Thursday's post, they will have to drop down in Blog Archive at left and click on start date to end date - which will give all the posts bunched together for that period.

  17. Hi everyone,
Finally left Bangalore at 7 and reached Coimbatore at 1:30 PM including a half hour break for breakfast at Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) they call it, at Dharmapuri. Excellent road except for a 5 KM patch at Salem and a narrow stretch of 20 KM between Avinashi and Coimbatore which if widened one can cover the 370 KM in 5 hours flat, touched 120 on a couple of stretches.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the blog active.
Yes I had put in a post, mentioning delayed post, which would have appeared at 5 AM, but since I delayed my start I was busy with the CW and forgot about the delay post that's how Richard saw it, I must have deleted it around 5:45 or so when I finished the CW.

  18. @ Col: Thanks for your indulgence. BTW Coimbatore reminds me of Dr Major R Sudhakar Rao, who set up the Rao Hospital in RS Puram. The hospital is still functioning, presently run by his youngest son Dr S R Rao.

  19. Contd: He had named his house on Ponnurangam Road (off DB Road) as Hill View, since you could see the Marudhamalai hills from his house in those days.

  20. In Coimbatore a well-known GP in the fifties and following decades was my mother's sister's husband Capt. C. K. Srinivasan. After a short service commission in the Army during the War, he became a municipal doctor and had private practice on Thiruppur Kumaran Street. His son, a GCIM, served as a rural doctor in Andhiyur. He was on tap 24/7 and I have seen patients being brought in at any time of night by bullock carts from surrounding villages and my cousin attending to them promptly and cheerfully. My cousin now oversees a clinic in Tatabad run by his sons and d-i-l, all doctors.

  21. My aunt had a big house on Thiruvenkataswamy Road, R. S. Puram, and I have pleasant memories of short stays in their ever-hospitable house where Madhva Navami and other functions were held in fetive gatherings.

  22. @ CV: Incidentally, Major Rao (who is no more)was the son of Dr Raghavendra Rao, medical adviser to the Cochin royal family and had three sons (all doctors, one of whom Dr SP Rao was practicing in Coimbatore and had a lot of indigent patients coming to him at all hours), two doctor !) in laws married to two of his sons, and also one grand-daughter who is a doctor.

  23. LNS: Ellis is a common first name and surname, especially in Wales.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Who's Ellis? Why Ellis? Is he the bloke who got shot on the bot? (J.LeC Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Contd: Of course, you must be familiar with Thomas Robert Ellis, who was a plant supporter.

  26. Ahmedabad has an Ellis Bridge area located along the sides of the Sabarmati river.

Numerous residential settlements (like Navkunj, Krishnakunj and Maharashtra), educational institutions, and some well known hospitals are situated here.

This place is famous for the Law Garden, the Ellis Bridge Gymkhana and the Oriental Club. Apollo is also operating a hospital here.
