  1. Hi
    The scores scored by our all star cast today (in the order of appearance, followed by number of roles played, not counting the setter’s byline):
    Neyartha-1
    Spiffytrix-2
    Nita-3
    M Manna- 1
    Sankalak-1
    Cryptonyte-1
    Gridman-1
    As you see, NJ holds the record.
    Spiffy appears as I and me, where’s Irene?

    A MAN TO MAN confession: I almost thought the part after the hyphen in 8a was an announcement ! Of COURSE, the G-LUC(OS)E helped to get over the ROTTEN EGG. If you visit the preparation area of sweet shop you will see that it is actually a SWEAT SHOP.
    Liked the DD broadcast today: CLOSE, COURSE,

  2. 16 - Fortuneteller’s son is a singer (8) - {P{S}ALMIST} Indicator for insertion of S missing

    Fortuneteller's is to be read as Fortuneteller has ...

    So on the whole it is correct : Fortuneteller has son; is a singer ...

  3. 12 - Drink that is consumed cold with British meal (3,3) - {ICE} {TEA}

    & lit too ? Though ice tea can be consumed with a meal, I am not sure the British do it. Recalled Goscinny & Uderzo's take on origins of the British institution of 'tea', 'with a spot of milk ?'

  4. Kishore,

    12 - Drink that is consumed cold with British meal (3,3) - {ICE} {TEA}

    To split hairs, I thought the anno was I(C)E, TEA

  5. Thanks Bhavan,
    Yes my anno for ICE TEA is incorrect

  6. Bhavan, that 'hairs' reminded of Asterix once again.

  7. I agree with Bhavan's anno. I was merely wondering whether it it also an &lit ???

  9. Nice puzzle on fellow setters. Though a bit tough enjoyed throughly.
    6 a is a bit farfetched. Same with 14 d. Ofcourse its my opinion.

  11. Since the trail has gone cold today:

  14. Vasant,

    X= TEN
    Sport’s = GAME
    almost = Indicator to delete E from GAME
    turning = Reversal indicator
    to be a source of attraction = Dfinition = {(-e)MAG}{NET}<-

    Fellow actor = COSTAR
    mislead = AInd
    CIA = Anagram fodder
    in this
    country = Definition = {COSTA R}{ICA*}

  15. Col.,
    I have a doubt-Why should it be sport's for game? Would not sport do? That had me confused for a long time.

  16. Kishore,
    Pizza was very good and I relished it!!

  17. A very interesting fare with all CW setters featuring in it and I was expecting a much better participation.Weekend mood setting in already?

  18. Padmanabhan,

    In the surface of the clue it is read as X-sport's with X being the name of the game/sport

    ReplyDelete
  19. 16A If it is "Fortuneteller has.." then it has to have "..who is a singer.", for proper surface reading. Or am I nitpicking here?

  20. Well, dinner time is pizza time. So here goes the explanation for those who did not get it.

    Volume of a circular section=pi x Sq(radius) x height
    = pi x sq(z) x a
    =pi.zza !

    I daren't equate it to pizza since purists may object saying 'pi' representing 3.14... is different from 'pi' representing p x i. But you get the drift :-)

    And congrats for those who did.

  21. Kishore,
    Your use of Pizza in the clue was a give away. You should have used 'an oven baked round bread' or something like that

    ReplyDelete
  22. I gave away a pizza :-)

  24. Thoroughly enjoyed it, with a couple of pretty funny clues. (Setters' mutual feelings, Nita's promotion and the effect of solving a Gridman clue.) I had gone out for pretty much the whole day, yesterday, and solved it today (barring ODDITIES and SWING).

    I know I have expressed this opinion before, but here it is one more time: we need more of Spiffytrix's grids.
